Position Summary:

Stonington Institute began serving recovering alcoholics in 1957 as Starlight Farms, a working farm where adults in recovery were introduced to the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Our main campus is located in North Stonington, CT, in its original private and peaceful rural setting, offering medical detoxification as well as residential addictions treatment for active duty and retired military service members.

Our clinic in Groton, CT, offers partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient treatment.  The clinic is conveniently located across the street from The Inn at Trails Corner, a new 180 bed dormitory-style sober community for adult men and women who attend our outpatient day treatment programs. The Inn offers overnight accommodations, full-meal service, indoor/outdoor recreation options, a workout room, and computer center for all guests.

We accept private insurance, state-funded plans and self-pay arrangements.

The Social Worker is a master's level individual who will focus on assessments and discharge planning, as well as provide education group facilitation and client orientation services to adults with substance abuse and co-occurring psychiatric disorders within the detox program. The Social Worker develops and implements client discharge plans, with particular attention paid to basic needs such as housing and immediate aftercare and identifying barriers to client’s recovery.  The Social Worker is familiar with appropriate referral sources within the community with the intention of maximizing each client’s potential for success beyond treatment. S/He establishes positive relationships with clients and maintains contact with clients, clients’ families, and other service providers in order to identify medical, clinical, social and related needs of clients after treatment. All services provided in conjunction with other members of the multi-disciplinary treatment team.


Master's in Social Work or related field (Mental Health Counseling and/or Substance Abuse), as is experience working in a case management capacity with individuals with co-occurring mental health diagnoses.  CT licensure as LCSW ideal, but not required.  The successful candidate is highly organized, computer literate, and a strong client advocate. Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team consisting of RNs, MDs, clinicians, and other members of the treatment team involved with clients’ care is necessary.
