Description

The Video Engineer II will serve to drive the technical aspects for development support of current and future software platforms related to customer-facing video technologies. The position is responsible for production software support for set top box and second screen OS, firmware, middleware, and applications i.e. interactive program guide. This role conducts expert-level troubleshooting and analysis, including code-level and diagnostic log analysis, and is responsible for handling the most difficult or advanced problems. This role provides high level support via implementation, monitoring, enhancements and troubleshooting systems in assigned areas. This role facilitates training for all down-tier support teams on new troubleshooting methods, issue, identification, and resolutions. The role is purposed to provide Tier 3 video software support for field and product operations with the focus to ensure highly reliable applications for our customers and the reduction of costs associated with software production defects i.e. customer’s calls or in home service calls. Establishes, implements, and executes technical and operating performance standards. 

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Investigate complex software problems and identify faulty components.
Participate in hands-on debugging and troubleshoot efforts in a video environment.
Integrate various software components in a highly agile software development and delivery environment.
Work closely with the development, test and project management teams and assist in each wherever possible.
Support automated continuous integration of software components by defining test suites and writing test cases and test scripts.
Analyze logs, identify defects, suggest fixes and report results.
Ensuring high quality of development and test activities.
Prioritizing a busy work schedule to meet tight deadlines.
Keep up with emerging technologies and provide beneficial input during technical discussions.

Maintenance of documentation related to the as-built configuration and support of advanced video equipment (e.g. VOD, controllers, multiplexing, digital transport, edge QAM).
Identify, resolve and escalate as required operational and design issues through data analysis and recommend solutions to make systems more efficient.
Work with the field on the implementation of network related projects and other standardization efforts.
Work with vendors and Engineering to resolve issues and design flaws.

Required:
Strong analytical skills and problem solving abilities 
Working knowledge of software development and integration 
Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to write clear and concise technical reports 
Self-motivated and proactive attitude, with good interpersonal skills
Capability to efficiently manage time and to multi task
Ability to isolate and troubleshoot failed systems and/or components 
Knowledge and understanding of video, data and voice communications networks, IP networking
Knowledge of network access and element management systems and their protocols (SMNP, NMS, Syslog, SSH, Telnet, etc.)
Advanced Knowledge of Motorola (DAC) and/or CISCO (DNCS) video delivery systems

Preferred:
BS/BA degree in related discipline strongly desired (computer science, engineering)
Working knowledge of IP networking, TCP/IP protocols, Routing, Switching
