POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Special Education Teacher educates students and administers policies and procedures relating to all phases of education in accordance with current state and federal special education standards.  In addition, the Special Education Teacher is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising individualized direct care, educational group services and activities for each assigned student or group.  The position defines and implements education and behavior goals as a member of the educational team.  As an active member, this position provides continuous individualized tailored student care, observation, interaction, documentation, and role modeling to students while under the direct supervision of the School Supervisor. As Special Education Teacher, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

Responsible for personal and Corporate Service Excellence standards.::

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Master’s Degree in Special Education preferred.  A minimum of three years related experience preferred.  Current certification as a Special Education Teacher by the State of Washington required.

Experience: Minimum of two (2) years as an instructor in a Special Education classroom.  Knowledge of educational theories and classroom teaching strategies with a good understanding of education and therapeutic intervention.  Knowledge of current professional Education practice and techniques applicable to the care of severely behaviorally disabled students.  Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the same.  Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with other staff, management, and physicians.  Analytical skills necessary to observe educational practice as well as observe and interpret human behavior accurately.  Knowledge of developmental stages preferred.

Responsible for constructing, implementing and maintaining individualized educational plans (IEPs) for assigned student case load.  Has the ability on a consistent basis, to organize and conduct educational classes/groups, direct student needs (individually and as related to on the student’s IEP) and provide appropriate documentation.  Successful completion of orientation

License: Valid teaching credentials and credentials to teach exceptional children, Special Education-endorsed in the State of Washington.

Additional Requirements:   Successful completion of CPR certification.  Successful completion of  HWC (Handle With Care) training prior to assisting with a restraining procedure and within 90 days of employment. Successful completion of orientation training within 90 days of employment.  May be required to work flexible hours. May require some travel.
