Cumberland Hospital for Children and Adolescents, a 110 bed state licensed and Joint Commission accredited specialty rehabilitation hospital, is located on 98 acres of riverfront land between Richmond and Williamsburg, Virginia in New Kent County.  We provide specialized care for young people whose disabilities, injuries or lifelong illnesses are compounded by emotional and/or behavioral problems.  We currently have a Special Education Teacher Full-Time position available teaching our Chronic Illness patients.  The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:        

1.    Provides education to all students assigned according to State and Federal regulations.

2.    Completes all documentation in a professional and timely manner.

3.    Participates in various teams to maximize educational impact and assure integration of all services to patients and residents.

4.    Fulfills responsibilities to the hospital in adherence to philosophy and general policy.

5.    Works cooperatively and professionally as a member of the multidisciplinary team. 

6.    Patients are primarily high school students; sometimes elementary and/or middle school age.

7.    Four core subject areas are taught with an emphasis on Math.

8.    Six hours of instruction time each day.


Job Requirements:

The following are the job requirements for the Full-Time Special Education Teacher position:

1.    Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or Master’s Degree in Special Education with a specialty area in Mental Retardation, Emotional Disturbances, or Learning Disabilities. 

2.    At least three years experience preferred with the specific age group being hired for (secondary students).

3.    Current Virginia State Teaching License with endorsements in Special Ed, ID, ED or MR REQUIRED.
