Dealertrack, a Cox Automotive Brand, is currently looking for a Senior Accountant to join our team in North Hills, NY.

The Senior Accountant will support Dealertrack’s Registration and Titling Services (RTS) full accounting cycle, which includes, but is not limited to:
  • Ensure the integrity of financial information in compliance with generally accepted accounting procedures (GAAP) and company policy.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate completion of the month-end close, including balance sheet reconciliations and roll forwards, internal reporting and analysis of the Balance Sheet and P&L, corporate reporting requirements, etc.
  • Ensure adequate controls are in place, and monitor the effectiveness of such controls, to maintain an internal control structure that enables accurate accounting and reporting of all financial transactions.
  • Monitor various business and operating metrics to aide in daily operational decisions.

This role requires in-depth knowledge of GAAP and general accounting operations, combined with exquisite critical thinking and analytical skills.  Additionally, this role requires a strong work ethic, organizational skills, attention to detail, effective problem solving skills and dynamic decision-making abilities.  Working effectively with others is of significant importance.

Your Role:
  • Supervise a combination of staff accountants (2 located in Connecticut, 2 located in Louisiana), accounting administrators (4 located in Connecticut) and an accounting supervisor (with 8 direct reports; all located in Albany) in the timely and accurate completion of the RTS month-end close in compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies. 
  • Review financial information used to prepare general ledger journal entries and document business transactions.  Review balance sheet reconciliations, roll forwards, internal financial statements, and financial information provided to the business, corporate tax team, external auditors, corporate accounting, finance, etc.
  • Ensure timely and accurate analysis of monthly financial results; communicate and collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Supervision of accounting administrator team – this team records and reconciles all cash transaction activity, including significant ACH activity with state DMVs.
  • Manage general accounting team to ensure timely and accurate completion of billing, ensure billing is in accordance with contracts, and monitor accounts receivable and cash collections.  Ensure sales tax compliance.
  • Streamline the monthly closing process by identifying areas for improvement, and develop and implement process/system improvements.  Eliminate non-value add/non-essential tasks.
  • Apply a hands-on approach to transforming the department while continuing to timely meet month-end close deadlines.
  • Oversee special projects as assigned and other research/support/data requests tasks.


Required experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required.
  • Prior supervisory experience required.
  • Knowledgeable of GAAP, accounting operations, finance and financial statements.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management, decision-making, problem solving, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • High level of skill in financial spreadsheet and accounting software.  Oracle and Hyperion experience preferred.  In-depth knowledge of MS Office suite of products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to lead the team with emotional intelligence.

What We Look For:

  • 5-7 years of experience preferred.
