Job Details

Leads the development and maintenance of risk and quality management systems at the Rinat, CEF, and CTI San Francisco sites (with possible support for other sites in the area), including oversight of compliance with applicable laws and regulations, business continuity/ crisis management, conformance to applicable Global EHS Standards, Minimum Security Requirements, the GOA Compliance Manual, and overall provision of high quality site operations programs.

The major duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

+ Serving as the site Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) .

+ Serving as the site Biosafety Officer.

+ Managing the EHS training program, including creating/ maintaining content (in conjunction with SMEs), tracking, and reporting.

+ Managing the site hazardous waste program .

+ Managing air, wastewater, hazardous materials, and medical waste permits (as applicable) and associated compliance.

+ Leading the site's environmental sustainability programs, including resource conservation, recycling, greenhouse gas reductions, etc.

+ Ensuring that all environmental-related reporting to regulatory authorities and Pfizer Global EHS is completed.

+ Maintaining the EHS SharePoint and other web content areas.

+ Managing Global EHS Audits at the site and ensuring corrective actions are implemented on time.

+ Assisting in the management of the site emergency response program.

+ Serving as an Incident Commander on the site's emergency response team

+ Serving as the Site Security Officer (optional) or Site Security Assistant.

+ Assuring conformance to the GO Compliance Manual for operations support of regulated areas.

+ Maintain the site business continuity/ crisis management plans and conduct drills as required.

+ Have the ability to serve as a backup to the site operations lead in key operational areas.

+ May require travel (+/- 20%) to support/ interact with other sites and as part of membership in the area EHS team.

+ Experience: 5 years experience in a EHS or related discipline, ideally in a pharma/ biotech R&D setting; also ideally, previous experience serving as an RSO; security and/or business continuity experience is also desirable

+ Professional Qualifications: Membership in relevant professional bodies; relevant professional certifications (CBSP, CSP, CHMM, etc.)


- Experience working in a close-knit, rapid-paced biotech research environment

- Suggested minimum of 2 years in leadership, budget management, and service provision.

- Proven knowledge and experience implementing and managing and maintaining compliance systems (EHS, GxP, State of California, and/or USDA) especially as related to support of research and development activities

- Knowledge and experience in environmental management systems, e.g., ISO14001

- Familiarity with ergonomics.

- Cross-functional project management experience

- Strategic thinker with the ability to translate global strategies and policies into site operational plans and procedures

- Experience identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities

- Experience in successfully developing and implementing policies, procedures and best practices

- High level of leadership capability and credibility, and ability to influence

- Skilled at team facilitation to build consensus and reach decisions

- Strong, effective and proactive communicator, particularly across global areas and customers
