Job Details


Performs chemical analysis on purchased raw materials, in-process preparations, pure drug substances and finished pharmaceutical products to determine that they meet official compendial and/or Hospira/Pfizer requirements.


1. Supervises chemists, technicians, and/or projects to optimize laboratory workflow, labor and efficiency.

2. Supervises or performs complex qualitative and quantitative analyses on: purchased raw materials, in-process products, pure drug substances and finished pharmaceutical preparations employing accepted gravimetric and spectrophotometric procedures, in accordance with approved testing procedures of Abbott, the National Formulary (NF) and the United States Pharmacopeia (USP).

3. Evaluate all data obtained from analysis; if discrepancy or deviation occurs, determine corrective and preventative actions.

4. Schedules raw materials, in-process batches and finished products for testing to assure timely release of these materials. Also schedules projects such as Technical Transfers, validations, and method development to support clinical lots and new product releases.

5. Present and defend investigational finding to upper management and plant leadership.

7. Participate in employee involvement team(s).

8. Able to train other employees to use instruments and/or analytical methods.

9. Works directly with third parties to facilitate new products.

10. Oversees specialty teams and performs specialized job assignments.


1. High School Diploma required.

2. BA/BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related science preferred

3. 3+ years experience in pharmaceutical lab.

4. Knowledge and understanding of fundamental principles of Chemistry or related field of science.

5. Understands and follow standard operating procedures and test method instructions.

6. Requires ability to understand and carry out assigned duties effectively with minimal instruction.
