As the Sr. Data Analyst - Complex Care Management, you will be responsible for evaluating UHC’s efforts to both improve the quality and reduce the cost of health care for our members.  You will investigate key business problems through quantitative analyses of quality, utilization and health care cost data. You will use your operational skills to develop, program, maintain and publish reports. You will make solid recommendations based on the analysis and provide explanations for reporting results for both internal and external stakeholders.  You must be self-directed and creative as you will deal with some very interesting and complex issues. As a key resource to others you must maintain a high degree of accuracy along with attention to detail, excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to always meet deadlines.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with plan Director, Project Management & Analytics, Chief Medical Officer, Senior Quality Director, and Health Services Directors
  • Work with complex raw healthcare claims and clinical data and making recommendations on analyses (e.g., design, create and implement quality improvement projects) and supports ongoing efforts of analytics and PM team
  • Uses Healthcare Economic methodologies to perform statistical analyses to determine effectiveness of clinical programs (e.g., pre-post analysis)
  • Expertise in presentation of program analyses to leadership, Executive team, and across the enterprise
  • Works on routine, ongoing, and ad hoc reporting/analyses functions of team as identified by leadership
  • Performs data extraction, aggregation, and quality checking from multiple sources and tables in support of validation and measurement, trend identification, root cause analysis, forecasting
  • Works in conjunction with analytics team to develop scalable reporting processes and querying data sources to conduct and distribute regular and ad hoc analyses
  • Participates in Quality Improvement and other work groups that drive clinical programs
  • Understanding of current and future clinical programs (VBC, practice transformation, state-facing, etc.) and provides analytics support for those program initiatives
  • Partners with quality management, disease management, service coordination, and other health plan managers around analyses and trends such that data driven decisions can be made

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Business, Statistics, Health Administration or related field
  • 1+ years of analysis and reporting experience in health care
  • 1+ years Managed care or healthcare experience
  • Experience working in an Enterprise Data Warehouse environment
  • Experience using SQL query techniques to access relational databases
  • Intermediate to Expert MS Excel skills
  • Proficient with Word and PowerPoint, Access
  • Able to work in Sugar Land, Texas office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of analysis and reporting experience
  • 1+ years of Quality Improvement, quality management experience
  • Solid understanding of the drivers of medical costs, and experience recommending medical cost improvements and alternative pricing strategies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and concepts effectively
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact collaboratively with internal customers across multiple departments and business segments
  • Self-motivated to manage multiple complex projects and multiple priorities simultaneously
