Description The New Business Assessments group is part of the PIH Strategy group and is responsible for leading commercial evaluation of new business opportunities, overseeing the commercial governance for business development projects, and helping to shape the Global PIH Business Development priorities,. This team partners closely with Worldwide Business Development to identify and successfully pursue attractive external opportunities and investments that have the potential to deliver the greatest value to Pfizer.

Reporting to the Vice President, New Business Assessment, this job holder is responsible for conducting rigorous commercial assessments for Oncology (ONC) business development opportunities to inform business development investment decisions. The job holder will partner with Worldwide Business Development (WWBD), PIH ONC Commercial Development, Medical Affairs and Regions, PIH Patient and Health Impact, and with Global Product Development for ONC to develop life cycle forecasts for sales revenue and operating expenses based on clear assumptions, with sensitivities to upside opportunity and downside risk. This information will also be used in the valuation to structure appropriate deal terms. He/she will evaluate both product licensing and bolt-on M&A opportunities, and actively participate in discussions that determine the potential value of the partnership. The job holder will balance the individual aspects of each assessment with an approach that follows similar principles across all PIH business groups to ensure comparisons and trade-offs can be made when appropriate.

The job holder will also contribute to the development of the Oncology BD strategy and to search efforts.

The job holder is a member of the Oncology BD team that makes deal recommendations to the Oncology Business President and the Oncology Triad.



Key Responsibilities



+ To develop rigorous commercial assessments of global and regional ONC BD opportunities which meet the CP105 threshold for governance decisions at the BDC.

+ To lead the commercial sub-team responsible for life cycle forecasts for sales revenue and operating expenses based on clear assumptions, with scenario planning and sensitivities to upside opportunity and downside risk. This activity will include seeking and coordinating contributions from internal stakeholders with areas of expertise that can inform the commercial assessment (e.g. Commercial Development, Medical Affairs, P&HI, Regional Business leaders, etc.).

+ To build or commission detailed revenue forecast models and to partner with BAI to commission primary and secondary market research to inform the assumptions that underpin the revenue forecast models. Support investment decisions through presentation of business insights and analyses, and clear recommendations.

+ To collaborate with the ONC business leaders and WWBD to develop the category BD strategy.

+ To collaborate with WWBD in the search for new ONC BD opportunities.

+ To coordinate contributions from senior stakeholders with areas of expertise that would impact the commercial assessment (e.g. Commercial Development, Medical Affairs, GH&V, Regional Business leaders).

+ To collaborate with the ONC business leaders and WWBD partners for the presentation of the commercial assessment to senior leadership governance bodies (e.g. ONC LT, BDC, ELT etc.) as part of the broader opportunity evaluation.

+ To develop and maintain a deep expertise about the global Oncology market including both in-line medicines, and new technologies and other innovations in early and late stage development.



Qualifications and Experience



+ BA/BS - life sciences degree and MBA is preferred

+ 15+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Understands major trends in healthcare and pharmaceuticals with deep knowledge of healthcare dynamics in the US and preferably in other major international markets, understands the drug development process, and is attuned to market trends and strategies that could impact business development opportunities.



+ Strong project management skills with proven ability to influence and engage commercial sub-team team members to drive commercial assessment activities to meet required timelines by working effectively in a matrix organization and leading without direct authority.

+ Ability to work complex and ambiguous information into insights that drive an analytic framework to help facilitate decision making.



+ Strong analytical skills and proficient in detailed forecasting analytics with ability to build bespoke forecast models. Conversant in expected cash flow modeling, understanding of economic value measures, and other types of analytical modeling (e.g. Monte Carlo simulation, decision tree analysis, multi-attribute analysis etc.).

+ Proficient in leading projects to develop detailed financial valuations, forecasting, business case proposals etc.

+ Strong presentation skills with ability to represent commercial assessment conclusions and recommendations to senior leaders (e.g. ELT, Oncology Business President, BDC etc.)

+ Prior experience in the business development process, specifically in opportunity identification, commercial assessment, and deal structure is preferred.

+ Prior experience with all types of business development deals including acquisitions, divestitures, partnerships, joint ventures, and co-development is preferred.

+ Prior experience preparing concise pharmaceutical equity analyses/research reports to inform potential investors from the financial services industry (e.g. investment banking, life sciences venture capital firms, hedge funds, mutual funds etc.) is preferred.
