What You'll Do

As the Hadoop Developer you will be responsible for software design and implementation of real-time applications and software components in the Hadoop data and analytics platform. In addition, you're responsibilities will include the following:

  • Implement data analytics processing algorithms on big data batch and stream processing frameworks (e.g. Hadoop MapReduce, Python, Spark, Kafka, Solr, etc.).
  • Design and develop data integration solutions (batch and real-time) to support enterprise data platforms including Hadoop, RDBMS and NoSQL.
  • Responsible for developing system architecture, future roadmaps and strategic planning for Hadoop data analytics platform.
  • Contribute to an all-star team of internal resources responsible for application support, development and maintenance functions for Cisco Enterprise’s overall data architecture, partnering with application maintenance, development and infrastructure teams
  • Work with vendors, service providers, and internal team to define and understand data architecture needs to achieve key performance indicators and Service Level Agreements for the benefit of Cisco and its business objectives.
  • Participate in and review application and infrastructure related projects to understand impacts to the overall data architecture; make recommendations and implement changes to mitigate risks and optimize the performance.

 

Who You'll Work With

You will work closely with the Architects, Analysts, Engineers and Business Product Managers to translate overall system architecture and product requirements to design and implement SW components in the Big Data platform.

 

Who You Are

You have a passion for and deep experience in the fundamentals of Big Data such as Hadoop Ecosystems HDFS and YARN. Your successful track record of relationship building and strong communication skills; written, verbal and interpersonal gives you an edge to create an impact. Plus your ability to convey the most complex concepts in the simplest of terms, combined with a strong sense of ownership and integrity, make you a phenomenal fit for this role.

At a minimum, we require:

  • BS in Computer Science and/or equivalent experience plus 7+ years development application experience
  • 4+ years of experience in developing data integration solutions (batch and real-time) on Hadoop, RDBMS and NoSQL systems.
  • 5+ years working experience on Unix or Linux OS platform.
  • 5+ years of experience using SQL, preferably in Oracle environment.
  • A minimum of 4 years of application development experience in Java, Python, XML, HTTP, SOAP/REST.
  • Strong knowledge of algorithms, enterprise systems, and web services software architectures.
  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technical configuration, technologies and processing environments around the host of components of an enterprise technical architecture set of solutions.
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills as well as working acumen in one or more software development &/or support methodologies.
  • Experience in Big Data Application development using Hadoop technologies (Hbase, Hive, Pig, HDFS, MR) and other programming languages like Python, Java, Apache Spark
  • Working knowledge of Sqoop and Hive is required with a deep understanding of partitioning/data formats/compression/performance tuning/etc.
  • Strong customer service outlook, work ethic, and verbal and written communication skills are all a must, as well as the ability to work well with both business and technical people.

Desired Skills:

  • SQL for Teradata/Oracle and knowledge of other industry ETL tools (including No SQL) such Cassandra/Drill/Impala/etc. is a plus
  • Proficiency in application development using Machine Learning algorithms is preferred
