Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: The employee assumes responsibility and accountability of assisting and providing coverage in various staff positions related to functions of admission/registration/discharge of patients.  The person in this position also orders supplies and maintains supply level for all Admitting areas. Monitors the timely flow of tubal consent forms and combines multiple Medicaid accounts according to State mandates. Works closely with multiple contract agencies to secure Medicaid billing information. Assists with reports, audits, and special projects.  Hours and days fluctuate according to coverage needed. This position supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence standards to all customer groups.  Utilize the appropriate skills in accepting responsibilities of assignments while exhibiting teamwork techniques and effective communications which contribute to the overall operation of the Department.  Understands, participates in, and contributes to quality improvement process for the Department and

Institution.  Applies appropriate policies and procedures, as set forth by the Department of Business Systems for the purpose of assessing and communicating patient needs, from pre-admission through dismissal. For obtaining insurance, financial and medical information, and any forms or screenings and applications necessary to secure payment. The person in this Admitting Assistant/Floater position maintains supply levels for the Admitting area and monitors the flow of tubal consent forms for proper billing purposes.  Assumes responsibility and accountability of assisting and providing coverage in various admitting staff positions. Cross-train to other job duties as deemed appropriate by Supervisor/Director. Accept additional duties as assigned.  Assumes responsibility for position’s impact on the departmental budget as it relates to the overall functioning of the organization.

Job Requirements


1. High School diploma or GED

2. Minimum one-year job related experience recommended

3. Health care background and computer experience desirable

4. Recommend moderate to intense concentration and attention to detail

5. Multi-Task oriented

6. Typing skills

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

1. Ability to read, write and converse in English.

2. Ability to communicate with staff, physicians, support agencies, patients, families, vendors and others.

3. Ability to remain calm and composed under stress.

4. Bending, lifting (10-20 lbs), grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, prolonged standing

and/or sitting.

5. Ability to tolerate low noise levels for prolonged periods.

6. Ability to function when exposed to hazardous chemicals and/or biological materials.

7. Ability to respond to pages, telephones and other auditory stimulation.

8. Quantitative/mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

9. Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions.
