Position Description:
POSITION PURPOSE:

The Sr Manager Asset Protection Forensics and Business Intelligence is responsible for driving improvement in reduction of loss (shrink) through analyses, research, investigation, and data mining.  This leader is also responsible for overseeing tools and processes that provide actionable information to Asset Protection stakeholders helping them better execute their jobs and support Asset Protection’s mission of being Safe, Accurate, and Secure.

Key responsibilities include analyzing and managing shrink performance, partnering with leaders in the organization (Store Support Center, Field, Stores) to drive improvements and investigate issues, reviewing exception reports, conducting deep dives on loss processes and merchandise categories, and leading managers and analysts/sr. analysts to be productive and impactful.  Additional day to day activities include identifying, distinguishing and analyzing multiple components of a problem and providing conclusions using quantitative and qualitative skills; leading teams on projects; effectively communicating to teams and other leaders; querying, reviewing and understanding shrink, markdown, returns and sales/financial data; identifying trends in business and the retail industry; and understanding key operational processes within the stores. 

 Two key teams report into this role: Asset Protection Forensics and Asset Protection Business Intelligence (BI).  The Asset Protection Forensics team focuses on conducting collaborative group research efforts (known as deep dives) into processes and categories to identify and resolve shrink opportunities.  This team also manages individual analyses and assignments (known as sprints) to surface and find opportunity for loss in the business.  Ad hoc assignments are regular and to be expected as well.  The Asset Protection Business Intelligence team focuses on providing actionable information to key stakeholders in the business (field partners, Store Support, other Asset Protection personnel, and stores).  This team leverages data analysis tools like Tableau to monitor potential areas of concern for potential issues (detection) and works to resolve issues identified.  They also look to optimize and improve existing tools and reporting to help the business function more effectively.

The Sr Manager Asset Protection Forensics and Business Intelligence works closely with the Directors of Asset Protection and Senior Directors of Operations, and typically takes direction from the Director of Asset Protection Forensics.  

 MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • 30% Identify findings from data and make actionable verbal/written recommendations to business partners regarding AP programs (shrink/theft/fraud reduction and safety/regulatory compliance) to drive improved performance. 
  • 10% Succesfully integrate with Store Operations to ensure proactive approaches for AP programs (shrink/theft/fraud reduction and safety/regulatory compliance) are taken within the development of new company initiatives. 
  • 20% Responsible for hiring, training, evaluating, mentoring, and disciplining Asset Protection Managers 
  • 20% Regularly scheduled visitation with all direct reports; specific store visits prioritized based on individual store 
  • performance measurements. 
  • 20% Follow up, accountability, and communication to include reviewing progress related to the timely execution of game plans partners and direct reports; conduct DC walks to monitor identified deficient areas; participate in and conduct staff meetings with direct reports and business partners.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
This position reports to the Director of Loss Prevention
Accountable for direct supervision of the work activities of others. In addition to personnel issues -- including selection, termination, performance appraisal and professional development of subordinates.

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Environment:
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Travel:
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required:
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

6 years

Physical Requirements
:

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

  • Strong data understanding – concepts, how data works, reporting visualization, reporting delivery
  • Strong analytics ability to manipulate data and come to conclusions and make recommendations
  • Statistics and Finance knowledge/awareness
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Powerpoint, Access, etc.)
  • Strong SQL Knowledge (Teradata, DB2, etc.) a plus
  • Use of, familiarity with, and development in reporting visualization software (e.g., Tableau, MicroStrategy) a plus
  • Customer Service oriented
  • Demonstrated leadership attributes – Ability to lead a sizable team with many work priorities and projects; ability to influence those in other areas without authority
  • Understanding of Home Depot’s current business processes (in store, Store Support, Supply Chain, Inventory, Merchandising, etc.) a plus
  • Advanced Degree (MBA) or Additional Certifications (Six Sigma, PMP) a plus
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
  • Strong understanding of Loss Prevention, Operations and/or field knowledge 
  • Proven track record in managing projects 
  • Ability to influence others cross-functionally 
  • Strong qualitative, analytic and business accumen skills 
  • Strong written/oral communication skills
