Position Description:
POSITION PURPOSE
The Senior Manager Pricing Merchant Strategy will lead a team that provide subject matter expertise and analytical support to pricing decisions made by the merchandising organization during category reviews, and test and learn activities for key departments. This position is responsible for executing category Pricing Strategy Reviews (PSRs) for designated departments and should be seen by merchants as a thought leader on category and assortment strategy. The Senior Manager will advise merchants on available pricing levers to drive category performance, designing and executing pricing tests to validate hypothesis. The Sr Manager will support corporate level pricing initiatives through engagement with their assigned departments. The Senior Mgr Pricing - Merchant Strategy should be an advocate for implementing pricing best practices and thought leadership across the portfolio of categories.
MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
80% - Develop relationships with Merchants and deep understanding of category business dynamics, and coaches subordinates to enhance their ability to make impactful insights.
Work in collaboration with Merchants to determine category review goals and objectives, conduct standard and ad hoc analysis to identify key drivers of performance, recommend pricing decisions that will improve category performance and develop financial plans that reflect pricing changes.
Provide process management for monitoring progress and proactively identifying and communicating issues. Review project milestones, conduct post mortem analysis and integrate new sources of data that support category objectives. Lead team in structuring strategy reviews, assessing requirements and design analysis.
Provide thought leadership to team relative to reviews. Oversee development of executive-level presentations that summarize analysis including historical category performance, strategic rationale underpinning pricing decisions and expected financial impact.
Lead report out to all levels of management. Accountable for teams accuracy, thoroughness, thought process, timeliness and viability of recommendations.
20% - Support to develop and maintain a calendar of category reviews, tests, and strategic initiatives. Own MVP/DMM and Merchant/Associate Merchant relationships for designated department strategic projects, Ad hoc analysis, and reporting.

This position reports to Director of Merchandising Operations

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Environment:
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Travel:
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Physical Requirements:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Additional Qualifications:
-Proficient with Microsoft Access, Excel and PowerPoint
-Strong analytical skills including demonstrated aptitude with financial analysis and ability to generate insight from large and complex data sets
-Strong communication skills including the ability to effectively articulate viewpoint to executive leadership and ability to write compelling executive level presentations
-Strong project management skills and ability to effectively handle multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously
-Strong financial acumen including experience with the retail and cost methods of accounting
Preferred Qualifications:
-MBA
-Prior experience in retail Pricing
-Prior experience in merchandising, planning and analysis
