*Role Description*

Responsible for design and development of creative packaging and labeling systems for medical devices and combination products. Labeling solutions should use latest graphics techniques to meet customer needs for clear use instruction and differentiate from competitive offerings, and packaging should provide suitable protection for the drug or medical device and compliance to regulatory requirements.Performs project planning, identifies appropriate requirements in alignment with customer and regulatory needs, generates or directs design and testing with outside suppliers in alignment with ASTM, generates documentation such as specifications, drawings, and artwork. A Packaging and Labeling Engineer will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and manage external suppliers and manufacturing partners.



*Responsibilities*

*Support the design and development of packaging and labeling for medical devices and combination products*Develop 2D graphics (Adobe Illustrator) for labeling and instruction solutions that augment intuitive use and clear understanding of the product while also complying to regulatory requirements and internal procedures*Review and provide input into the protection requirements, aligned with ASTM standards and specifications for the drug or medical device with respect to expected product lifecycle environmental and distribution challenges*Produce or direct suppliers in the production of models and drawings using 3D CAD (preferably SolidWorks) that define the packaging solution*Prepare prototype materials for early-stage usability studies*Analyze internal and supplier designs to identify areas critical to function, likely failure modes and design sensitivities. *Carry out supplier selection, management, and commercial cost analysis in concert with procurement and manufacturing stakeholders*Develop test protocols and direct engineering testing (laboratory-based work) to evaluate packaging design proposals, establish functional performance characteristics, and feedback results into design*Carry out data analysis of test results to determine design performance and acceptability*Support supplier design reviews and Pfizer design reviews*Create packaging and labeling drawings and specification documentation to support medical device development, industrialization, and submission



*Qualifications*

*Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Industrial Design or equivalent*A minimum of 2 years' experience using 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred)*A minimum of 2 years' experience using 2D graphic tools (Adobe Illustrator)*Experience within the medical device industry would be a benefitPHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Physical requirements include walking, standing, and performing analysis including specification and label artwork creation.
