*Role Description*

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist for a primarily research position in an established Pfizer Comparative Medicine Global Science & Technology group. The ideal candidate will have a PhD, and/or DVM/VMD degree(s), research experience in basic science or drug discovery, and, if relevant, clinical expertise with most common laboratory animal species. The principal responsibility of the position is to develop and implement animal models and in vivo technologies that advance Pfizer Neuroscience and Cardiovascular and Metabolic disease therapeutic programs. The role involves working in a highly interactive and collaborative environment and includes participation in Comparative Medicine global and site based initiatives.



*Responsibilities*

*Collaborate with Pfizer Research Unit scientists and Investigative Partners to develop animal models of human disease, specific to neuroscience, cardiovascular/metabolic and inflammation.*Lead and direct a group to perform in vivo and other scientific studies utilizing a variety of techniques and technologies in support of the Pfizer therapeutic portfolio, managing priorities to maximize portfolio impact. *Ensure flawless animal care and welfare in conducting research studies through study design and implementation, and championing the "3 Rs" principles.*Independently participate with research project teams to design studies, and to report and interpret study results.*Provide leadership within GST and Comparative Medicine for advancing the therapeutic portfolio and flawless animal care and welfare.*Produce reports, posters, talks, and other project communications, and write manuscripts published in peer-reviewed journals.*Effectively manage talent through focused colleague career development and performance management.*Develop new techniques and technologies for in vivo research.*Participate in group, departmental, and Pfizer teams for improving process or other organizational endeavors.*Participate in the developing and advancing the GST Strategic Plan



*Qualifications*

Educational Background:Ph.D in a related field required; DVM, VMD, or MD preferredACLAM or equivalent appropriate certificationWork Experience: *Experience working with non-human primates in the neuroscience field.*Reputation for technical expertise and advancing technology within and outside the organization.*Experience working with post-doctoral students and proven track record mentoring.*Demonstrated leadership in strategic decisions that span departments and lines, and in representing Comparative Medicine to investigative partners. *Experience with interdisciplinary team success, and in mentoring and directing personnel.*Has authored manuscripts and reports, and made internal and external presentations. *In general, a colleague at this level will have a minimum 7-10 years PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Work with nonhuman primates and rodents and familiarity with animal studies and protocols. Work in the vivarium may require prolonged standing, light lifting, bending, walking, and coordination. Ability to perform complex data analysis and use of advanced and common laboratory instrumentation.NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS Will be required to work under one of the following: the United States Department of Agriculture Animal Welfare Act and associated Regulations and Standards, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, Good Laboratory Practices, Public Health Service Policy and/or AAALAC accreditation standards.
