The Sr. Relationship Management Specialist works independently, maintains, enhances relationships with existing insurance only clients and at times may be asked to support as the “quarterback” of a client account team.  The Sr. Relationship Management Specialist will be responsible for resolving the most complex insurance problems and is assigned to the more complex clients.  This role has overall responsibility for the client relations, day-to-day service and administrative issues.  This role may provide guidance to more junior staff.  A strong Sr. Relationship Management Specialist possesses very strong communication skills and comprehensive knowledge of life insurance products and services.


Essential Functions:

  • Act as the client’s day-to-day contact for corporate owned, split dollar, executive disability insurance plans, fielding questions and requests
  • Act as the participant’s day-to-day contact for split dollar and executive disability insurance fielding questions and requests
  • Ability to learn and understand insurance death claim processing
  • Act as the internal lead and project manager deliverables; overseeing day-to-day service deliverables and client specific operations to ensure assigned clients receive the highest quality product
  • Manage and lead efforts related to client conversions and implementations, in conjunction with the Client Relationship Manager (CRM) and Department Manager
  • Coordinates and leads communications with clients for services being performed by other internal departments (such as Plan Accounting or Analytical Services)
  • Will take lead in providing options to Client Relationship Managers and Relationship Managers regarding funding issues
  • Establishes client service expectations with client team members
  • Coordinate delivery and production of non-standard and ad-hoc requests
  • Consult with clients/counsel on insurance, plan design, funding and complex administrative issues
  • Act as a subject matter expert and assist department, team and clients with various inquiries


Other Responsibilities:

  • Escalates client issues and communicate potential sales opportunities to CRM and Manager
  • Establishes client service expectations with client team members
  • Trains team members on plan features and client specific processes
  • Ensure ongoing client procedures are implemented and kept up to date
  • Determine standard services to be provided to a client, in conjunction with the CRM and Manager
  • Oversee Service Calendar maintenance
  • Work with CRMs to ensure service agreement is current and escalate client request to the Manager and CRM for services requested that fall outside of the service agreement’s scope of services
  • Work with clients and other team members to give clarity to the desired output
  • Develops calculation model & trains team members on procedure
  • Tests output and assumes responsibility for quality control
  • Oversees quality control for all client team projects and services deliverables
  • Facilitates cross communication within the client team
  • Oversees insurance consent enrollment activity in conjunction with CRM
  • Reviews and monitors project timelines
  • Leads New Client/Plan Implementations, in conjunction with the CRM
  • Assists as necessary with new insurance purchases

  • 3 years of financial services industry experience
  • Knowledge of qualified or non-qualified benefit plan administration, life insurance, finance, accounting, financial modeling or other technically oriented benefits-related field
  • Poised, calm under pressure and an effective verbal and written communicator
  • Ability to train fellow associates
  • Basic financial acumen skills
  • Undergraduate degree in related field and/or relevant experience
  • Ability to anticipate needs and take effective action
  • Detail oriented, analytical self-starter with a motivation to expand knowledge, skills and responsibility
  • Excellent Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to manage and prioritize projects and take an active role in problem solving/decision making
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work both independently and as a team member
  • Utilizes reasoning ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions
  • Ability to learn how to interpret carrier illustrations
  • FINRA 6 & 63 registration and stat Life Insurance within 120 days of hire
  • Must be able to travel to CA during training & transition period
