Job Description

Arbour Hospital is a 136-bed private psychiatric facility located in Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood. The hospital specializes in adult mental health treatment, adolescent and dual diagnosis services. Other services include partial hospitalization programs (PHP) and outpatient treatment.

The Substance Abuse Clinician delivers direct services and coordination of services to clients, and may provide other authorized therapeutic modalities as relevant; participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning; and ensures that any treatments delivered are within the scope of his or her training, experience, and general level of competence. Assists administrative team in maintaining BSAS licensing requirement.

  1. Participates in planning treatment programs, dispositional and discharge plans.
  2. Maintains family, and all collateral contact, as relevant to the case management planning and aftercare.
  3. Participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning.
  4. Develops and maintains client treatment plan plans and reports.
  5. Coordinates, arranges and monitors continuity of care.
  6. Accepts supervision, attends regularly-scheduled treatment team meetings, and coordinates communication with Utilization Review as needed.
  7. Occasional will lead/co-lead recovery groups

Job Requirements
  1. Masters Degree in Social Work, Psychology or related Program from an accredited college or University.

  2. License eligible as LICSW, LMHC, LADAC

  3. Two years experience in providing Substance Abuse interventions and case management with knowledge of addiction recovery dynamics preferred.


Equipment Operated:  
Telephone, Copy machine, Computer, Calculator, Facsimile machine, Postage meter, Policies, procedures, plans, and program manuals

Work Environment:
Position is in a well-lighted office environment.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  1. Ability to sit for long periods, up to 8 hours.

  2. Ability to use both hands in fine and gross manipulation of small tools (copier, computer, telephone, calculator, safe, facsimile machine).

  3. Ability to see well enough to read handwritten and typewritten material.

  4. Ability to stand and walk daily to retrieve forms/supplies for other departments.

  5. Ability to hear and speak well enough to answer and communicate on the facility switchboard, if required to do so.

  6. Ability to spend working time in environment of continuous moderate voices and office machine noise typical for business office atmosphere.

  7. Ability to handle a variety of repetitive tasks.
