Job Description

PROVISION OF SERVICES

Readily assumes the essential functions (i.e., tasks, duties, and responsibilities) that are critical and/or fundamental to the successful performance of the job. Provides supervisory and technical expertise in the area of assigned responsibility according to accepted laboratory standards of practice as outlined by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), CLIA’88, Joint commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), and American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), and other regulatory agencies, as appropriate, and procedures of the Hospital, department, and/or department’s Medical Director. Participates in maintenance and safety programs. Participates in and supports a process to measure, assess, and improve performance in the area of assigned responsibility.

Exhibits effective leadership skills in planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating departmental functions in relation to the UHS and the NWTHS mission, vision, strategic goals, and values and in accordance with JCAHO’s leadership standards.

Operates the section or shift of responsibility in such a way as to meet the fiscal goals of the organization. Investigates and submits for implementation value-added programs and services. Manages the satisfaction of

Department customers to include patient’s, employees and physicians through effective communication and appropriate responsiveness to customer issues.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

1. Minimum Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree with a major in medical laboratory technology, microbiology, biology, chemistry, or related science. Minimum Work Experience: Five (5) years of clinical laboratory experience, including phlebotomy, preferred

3. Certifications: American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) required.  Other: Must meet the personnel requirements as outlined by CLIA ‘88.

4. Mathematical, computer, reasoning and language skills at the undergraduate or graduate level required.
