Job Description


The PIC Supervisor (in coordination with the Director of Pharmacy) manages the operations of  the off site Pharmacy in a cost-effective manner, including planning for new services, directing day-to-day operations, continuously improving services to meet customer needs, assuring adequate resources are available, and integrating services with other professional services within and outside the off site Pharmacy to assure continuity of care. This position assumes Pharmacist In Charge (PIC) duties of the off site Pharmacy reporting to the Director of the main hospital facility Pharmacy.


  1. Develops and maintains a medical staff approved formulary, with coordination of the Pharmacy Director, ensuring maintenance of an adequate medication supply
  2. Ensures the integrity of the medication supply 
  3. Establishes specifications for the procurement of medications, chemicals and biologicals
  4. Assures appropriate handling, documentation, and control of controlled substances by assigned staff
  5. Ensures compliance to all federal and state regulations for controlled substances
  6. Tracks Medication Errors and Adverse Drug Reactions as appropriate and develops and implements improved procedures to minimize and prevent future adverse medication events
  7. Coordinates pharmacy services with nursing areas, other hospital departments and external agencies to facilitate a smooth continuity of care
  8. Interprets hospital and departmental policies and procedures for pharmacy personnel and assures compliance
  9. Assists with Clinical Staff Pharmacist duties in the main hospital facility as needed
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Pharmacy required
  • Texas License required
  • Prefer five (5) years progressively responsible experience performing pharmacy functions, with two years at a supervisory level
  • Ability to serve as a lead worker to subordinate personnel
  • Continued employment is contingent on successfully maintaining current required certification(s) and license(s)
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of Pharmacy
  • Ability to give directions to and gain compliance from assigned staff
  • Ability to maintain good planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to set priorities, make critical decisions and respond quickly to emergency requests
  • Ability to maintain harmonious and effective working relationships with other employees and respond to general public complaints
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Ability to use computer hardware, various software programs and technology, including word processing and spreadsheet programs
  • Knowledge in the application of basic accounting principles necessary to accomplish financial management tasks such as preparing budgets and monitoring program costs
  • Some travel, to follow-up with Corporate, Financial, GPO, Compliance and Automated Dispensing Machine issues
  • Experience with automated dispensing machines and knowledge of pharmacy usage reports (i.e., optimization, load/unload, nursing narcotic access, etc.) required
