The VP Sales, Behavioral Solutions will  report directly to the Head of Optum Behavioral Health (BH) and sit on the Senior Leadership team for the business.  Optum BH serves 34.5M members and generates close to $4B in revenue in the Employer, Payer, and Government markets, and this leader will be responsible for driving direct sales in the Employer, Payer, and Medicaid spaces.  The candidate and his or her team of Solutions Sales team members ill also be responsible for helping to drive sales within UHC’s NA and C&S (Medicaid) division as well as any other BH markets that may be entered in the future.

 

The BH Growth leader will lead a team of solution sales executives and client management working across Employer, Payer and Government with specialized teams focused on these markets.  The BH Growth leader will be fully accountable to the Head of BH to meet the mutually agreed upon sales targets and account retention goals.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leadership responsibilities
    • Accountable for Behavioral Solutions growth and renewal targets achieved by managing the growth teams and partnering with market, solution and finance leadership
    • Responsible for leading a team of client professionals, including solution sales and client management functions
    • Accountable for driving growth objectives for team to achieve sales quota for current and new clients
      • Accountable for managing growth by partnering with internal matrixed stakeholders (e.g. other business unit growth leaders, sales market leadership, OptumHealth Chief Growth Officer, as well as business unit reporting relationships)
    • Champion for  the client experience and improve client satisfaction, resulting in improved Net Promoter Scores (NPS®)
    • Develop and coach sales producers, client executives, solution sales execs or business development execs and / or other growth leaders
    • Explore new and innovative opportunities and market approaches to drive growth
    • Drive sales, product development and distribution of Optum’s solutions to solve client needs and drive growth
    • Partner with marketing to ensure strong value story to demonstrate value of behavioral solutions for the markets we serve
    • Partner with product leadership to share market / client feedback to influence solution design and applicability to respective markets we serve (ie Payer, Employer, Government)
    • Cultivate and deepen complex client relationships
    • Communicate and present effectively at multiple audiences and levels (listening, written and verbal communication)
    • Majority of time is spent out of the office with clients, generally 70% or greater
  • Sales responsibilities
    • Drive complex solutions and expand solutioning within clients and across the markets to sell Optum solutions to new and / or existing clients (across market groups that purchase health services such as Payer, Employer, Government)
    • Drive pipeline and forecast disciplines as well as other sales management responsibilities
    • Achieve assigned individual growth target
    • Pursue or generate leads for new or enhanced product or service opportunities to new or existing clients
    • Individual may source directly, be brought into an opportunity by (CE, BD, CM, sales leader), or leverage existing and referral relationships, industry events, qualified leads, renewal activity, etc.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years sales, account management or consulting experience
  • 7+ number of years of proven experience and expertise in the healthcare, insurance or related industry (ex. consulting, wellness, pharmacy, etc.) 
  • 5+ years of progressive management experience with ability to successfully recruit, hire, develop and engage staff or relatable experience 
  • Prior experience building and managing strategic client relationships and sales (of specific solution set / product) in / to the (ex. Payer, Provider, Employer, Life Sciences, Government, International, etc.) market 
  • Proven track record for achieving target revenue and / or sales goals 
  • Demonstrated success in accessing and influencing senior level and / or C - Suite clients, sophisticated customers, channels, consultants, and / or business partners in a highly matrixed organization
  • Deep understanding of sales process and ability navigate and manage complex sales, solutioning and RFP process to facilitate and remove roadblocks (for sales / client executives) to close sales
  • Proven ability to operate and effectively navigate in a highly complex, matrix environment with a high level of collaboration 
  • Ability to drive effective pipeline and sales process discipline

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in managing and / or achieving sales annual results for market / solutions (ex. Payer, wellness, technology)
  • Behavioral Health and / or EAP expertise
  • Experience leading teams on a regional / national level
  • Proficiency in CRM tools (ex. Salesforce) and sales methodology
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Masters or advanced degree (ex. MBA, MHA)
