Position Description:
The Home Depot is seeking a Systems Engineer Manager - IT Security Network & Perimeter Protection. This position will focus on providing advanced security operations and engineering support for a broad range of Network & Perimeter Protection related tools and technologies, including but not limited to Firewalls, Web Proxies, Web Application Firewall, Network Access Control (NAC) and supporting enterprise network environment. Collaborate and work with application and network teams to improve the security posture of web application performance and security as it relates to firewall and WAF policies. The position will work to ensure that technical controls adhere to SOX, PCI and implement strategy for defense-in-depth protection of enterprise network using tools, technologies, policies and procedures for these areas. The position will be responsible for managing security operations team overseeing the technical infrastructure of the security tools and services. Responsibility for ensuring our IT security infrastructure is designed, implemented, and monitored properly for maximum reliability and efficiency.  This position would work directly with auditors and IT control owners to assure audits are completed on time. Within their Security Operations teams, Systems Engineer Managers, work closely with vendors, different verticals within the security organization, business stakeholders and the stores. They support system planning reviews and communicate and present across all levels of the organization. Typically reports to the Systems Engineer Sr. Manager, Technology Director or Sr. Director.

The Systems Engineer Manager is responsible for attracting, retaining and developing top talent focused on market needs and inspiring Systems Engineering teams to provide quality service to drive a highly stable infrastructure in support of The Home Depot's business. The Systems Engineer Manager focuses on guiding and executing the implementation, maintenance, and support of hardware, software and systems necessary to enable sales, drive efficiency, and build customer satisfaction. Within their Systems Engineering teams, Systems Engineer Managers, work closely with business stakeholders and the stores. They support system planning reviews and communicate and present across all levels of the organization.

30% - Strategy & Planning:
Looks across teams with a focus on alignment and dependencies
Gains a thorough understanding of infrastructure needs and guides teams to design infrastructure platforms that meet end user requirements
Translates product and project goals into infrastructure strategy and clearly communicates direction and priorities to teams and business partners
Determines value to the business of anticipated Systems Engineering efforts
Identifies goals, metrics, and appropriate analytics to measure the performance of Systems Engineering teams; continually makes recommendations and refinements on approaches based on learnings
Reviews recommended solutions and work of Systems Engineers to ensure alignment with company, stakeholder, and end user priorities
20% - Delivery & Execution:
Leads configuration, debugging, and support for infrastructure
Documents, reviews and ensures that all quality and change control standards are met
Leads field and corporate roll-outs of technology
Leads the stand up of necessary system software, hardware, and equipment (physical or virtual) to meet changing infrastructure needs
Creates and optimizes specifications for complex technology solutions
Provides regular status to leadership regarding progress of Systems Engineering efforts
Manages vendor relationships
Manages, reviews, and approves purchase requests for hardware and software
20% - Support & Enablement:
Removes roadblocks and obstacles that may impair Systems Engineers to help ensure efforts meet strategic, financial, and technical goals
Receives and prioritizes escalations and incoming requests from product teams and stakeholders
Guides the production of in-house documentation around solutions
Monitors tools and proactively helps teams struggling with systems issues
30% - People:
Provides leadership, mentoring, and coaching to Systems Engineering professionals
Attracts, retains, and develops top talent
Conducts annual and mid-year reviews, reviewing individual development plans and providing performance feedback
Fosters collaboration with team members to drive value, and identify and resolve impediments
Advocates for the end user and stakeholder by becoming associated with the product, empathizing with and understanding user needs
Guides more junior team members in strategy, alignment, analysis, and execution tasks
Participates in and contributes to learning activities around systems engineering core practices (communities of practice)

Typically reports to the Systems Engineer Sr. Manager, Technology Director or Sr. Director.


Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.

Experience in administering or implementing enterprise next generation network firewalls in large scale environments in a multi-site datacenter with experience in public and private cloud infrastructure.
Experience in enterprise network infrastructure, NAC solution and Web Proxy tools, including Cisco, Fortinet and Juniper Networks.
Strong experience with routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, with a solid understanding of how these are utilized in a complex multi-site network.
10 years working within Information Technology and 3-5 years specifically in Information Security managing a team
Designed, implemented and managed security operations in the large geography Retail or E-Commerce industries.
Experience in leading 24/7 endpoint security operations applying ITIL processes maturity across incident, problem, configuration, change, release mgmt. and patch management.
Experience in coordinating responses to systems security incidents including problem recognition, root cause analysis, research, isolation, and follow-up
Experience in implementing security event monitoring and reporting framework for network security to upper management and promoting compliance awareness
Must have in-depth experience and familiarity with external regulations - PCI and SOX - and IT Security governance framework - NIST, ISO 27001
Strong organization skills and personal framework for consistency, accuracy and repeatable deliverables
Strong communication skills - written and verbal, team player for both technical and non-technical audiences
Ability to drive key initiatives, with minimal direction with strong interpersonal and client service skills
Demonstrated experience in fostering collaboration, innovation, creativity and teamwork, analytical capabilities
Exhibits a strong interest and aptitude to be a security / compliance advocate and experience in developing and maintaining a technology risk assessment process
Ability to solve complex problems in a technical service oriented environment, providing solutions in a systematic and clear manner, easily understood and followed by subordinates and colleagues
A major security certification is preferred (CISSP, CISM or equivalent)
Certifications in Juniper, Cisco, PaloAlto, firewalls necessary for the position. Certifications in routing and switching are suggested, as well as in load balancer technology.
