Position Summary:

 

Primary Responsibilities

1.          Develop and implement an educational plan that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of the ISTP and/or IEP.

 2.        Structure the classroom environment in a manner that is conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.

 3.        Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects with the ability to communicate these objectives to the students.

 4.        Provide organized program plans to Academic Manager for approval as required.

 5.        Encourage all students to maintain appropriate standards of behavior.

 6.        Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the classroom location, as well as the needs and capabilities of the students.

 7.        Demonstrate through action and awareness the school district’s philosophy, policies, and patient/student goals.

 8.        Diagnose the learning strengths and weaknesses of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of the Academic Manager as required.

 9.        Assess the development of students on a regular basis, with assistance from the Academic Manager.

10.      Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

11.      Maintain accurate, complete and correct educational records as required by law, hospital policy, and administrative regulations.

12.      Assist facility administration in developing and implementing policies, rules and/or regulations for Education Department.

13.      Ensures availability of self, to students, parents, or others regarding education related purposes outside the school day when requested to do so.

14.      Plan and supervise assignments for teaching assistants, and provide input to supervisor to evaluate job performance.

  1. Adheres to facility, department, corporate, personnel and standard policies and procedures.
  2. Attends all mandatory facility in-services and staff development activities as scheduled.
  3. Adheres to facility standards concerning conduct, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  4. Supports facility-wide quality/performance improvement goals and objectives.
  5. Maintains confidentiality of facility employees and patient information.

Specific Standards of the Care of Culturally/Spiritually Diverse Patients

  1. Treats each patient with dignity and respect regardless of differences in personal beliefs, behavior, language, or work ethic based on cultural/spiritual diversity
  2. Maintains a nonjudgmental attitude toward the patient’s cultural and spiritual belief system (including dietary restrictions, standards of cleanliness, etc.)
  3. Recognizes a difference in communication styles, cultural and spiritual values, and work ethic.  Refrains from imposing his/her own code of behaviors on patients from diverse cultural and spiritual backgrounds
  4. Recognizes his/her own values, beliefs, stereotypes, and biases and does not allow them to impact treatment of patients with differing belief systems

Specific Standards of Performance – Customer Service

  1. Consistently applies concepts of good customer relations; interacts with patients, visitors, and co-workers in a pleasant and respectful manner; displays courtesy at all times
  2. Demonstrates good telephone etiquette at all times
  3. Maintains a positive attitude

  5. Willing to “go the extra mile”
  6. Receives no customer complaints concerning attitude or job performance

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Education:  Special Education Certification required; Bachelor's Degree in Education (minimum).

Experience: Minimum of two (2) years as an instructor in a psychiatric/behavioral health facility or equivalent experience preferred.  Knowledge of educational theories and classroom teaching strategies with a good understanding of education and therapeutic intervention.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers. 

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid teaching credentials and credentials to teach exceptional children.

        

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
