Position Summary:

A person having extensive knowledge, experience, proficiency and certifications in comprehensive, technical surgical skills that provides technical leadership in the care of the perioperative patient. Working under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or Medical Staff member, attends to the patients direct care needs. Acts as a primary preceptor for Surgical Technology Students, Techs, Sr. Techs, Lead Techs and student FAs in developing needed direct care skills and performs tasks as delegated by the R.N. or Medical Staff member. Works in partnership with a Registered Nurse and a Medical Staff member and although this individual does not assume an independent assignment, can be relied upon to demonstrate excellence in the direct care of the most complex perioperative patients. Requirements
1. High School diploma or equivalent required 2. Certification as a Surgical First Assist. 3. Was employed to practice surgical technology in a healthcare facility before September 1, 2009 or is in the service of the federal government, to the extent the person is performing duties related to that service 4. Completion of a surgical technologist program with certification exam eligibility - certification preferred. 5. One year surgical technology experience preferred. 6. Current BLS certification upon hire and maintain certification throughout employment
