Job Description

Position Summary:  Under general supervision, the Biomedical Equipment Tech II position serves as a highly skilled technician, specializing in one or more areas, performing technical functions for the Biomedical Engineering Department including inspecting, testing, servicing, calibrating and repairing advanced complex biomedical and related equipment in both clinical and technical settings.  This Biomed Tech II position supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence Standards to all customer groups.

Job Requirements

Key Performance Functions and Responsibilities:


  1. Maintains Designated Biomedical Equipment


    1. Conducts periodic inspections/tests based on pre-determined priorities and conditions.


    2. Performs scheduled preventative maintenance on equipment as specified.


    3. Responds to requests by pager, radio, telephone or other methods of communication.


    4. Performs emergency repairs using proper troubleshooting techniques and procedures.


    5. Performs initial acceptance on new equipment.


    6. Maintains logs and documentation of inspections, tests, servicing and repairs as required.


    7. Completes work orders as required.


    8. Aids in investigation of incidents involving equipment malfunctions and assists department supervisor with SMDA reports.


    9. Participates in and supports a process to improve performance of services.


    10. Assists medical and related staff by providing clinical support of medical related equipment.


    11. Physical and Sensory Requirements:

      1. Ability to read and write English

      2. Ability to understand electronic equipment maintenance problems

      3. Ability to perform lifting (minimum of 50 lbs.), bending, grasping, fine hand/eye coordination, pushing and pulling, work with hands above head, work above ground on ladders, etc. and standing or sitting for long periods.

      4. Ability to understand and practice safety requirements in work involving exposure to hazardous chemicals, biological materials and dangerous equipment.

      5. Ability to respond to pager, radio, telephone and other auditory stimulation.

      6. Ability to discriminate color.

      7. Ability to perform quantitative/mathematical functions and measurements.


  2. Supports the special needs of the department and the organization:

    1. Assists Supervisor in accomplishing goals, projects or special assignments.

      1. Performs layout and installation of equipment/cabling.

    2. Remains flexible to changing needs

      1. Assists in various non-maintenance activities.

    3. Defines self-learning needs and takes initiative to identify areas for potential growth.

    4. Physical and sensory requirements:

      1. Ability to remain calm under stress in various environments.

      2. Ability to communicate with staff, physicians, patients, families, vendors, visitors and others.

      3. Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions.
