Job Description

Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center (VBPC) is a 100-bed freestanding hospital offering acute psychiatric and substance abuse services for adults 18 years and older. The hospital is accessible 24 hours a day for admissions, and includes mental health assessments and referral network. Treatment programs and specialty services at VBPC include substance abuse and dual diagnosis. Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center currently has PRN Mental Health Counselor positions (all shifts) available.  Candidates must be available to work weekends and holidays.

The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:

  • Serves as an active member of the clinical staff.
  • Maintains a therapeutic relationship with patients.
  • Assists in maintenance of a safe, clean therapeutic environment.
  • Assures patient participation in program activities.
  • Assists in maintenance of patient health and safety.
  • Performs technical/patient care duties.
  • Interacts with patients, patient families, clinical team and community resources establishing relationships and providing positive customer service.
Job Requirements

The following are the job requirements for the PRN Mental Health Counselor positions (all shifts):

 

  • Undergraduate degree in Psychology, Human Services, Sociology, Counseling or in a related behavioral science field; one year of direct care experience working with adult psychiatric or chemical dependency clients preferred OR
  • Associates degree in Psychology, Human Services, Sociology, Counseling or in a related behavioral science field; one year of direct care experience working with adult psychiatric or chemical dependency clients required OR
  • RNA/LPNA or High School/GED Diploma; three years of direct care experience working with adult psychiatric or chemical dependency clients required.
