Job Description

The Lighthouse Care Center of Augusta (LCCA) is part of the UHS system and is a multi-discipline behavioral healthcare center that offers mental health services to the communities of surrounding Augusta, Georgia. We are focused on providing the highest quality treatment. Our mission is to create, promote, and maintain a positive customer relationship with our consumers, payers, staff and our community. LCCA is a 68-bed acute and residential treatment facility providing balanced, top-notch clinical care to adolescents ages 5-17. We provide a carefully-structured yet supportive environment. Our education program is accredited through the Georgia Accrediting Commission.

LCCA is seeking a dynamic,  full-time  Mental Health Technician.  The MHT
participates in total direct care of residents with psychiatric disorders; supports the milieu; and ensures the safety and well-being of the residents in our care primarily through maintaining patient, program, department and related documentation according to policy, including Q-15’s, point sheets, disciplinary action reports and incident reports. This position reports to the Milieu Manager and the CEO and works as needed. This position is not eligible for health benefits.

Job Requirements

Education:   Must be at least 21 years of age possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent; good oral and written communication skills; legible handwriting; ability to maintain information as highly confidential; telephone etiquette and customer service skills by phone and face-to-face; familiarity with medical and psychological terminology preferred; skills in dealing courteously with the public and other staff within the facility; basic knowledge of human behavior or principles of psychology useful; skills in prioritizing and in managing time; problem-solving skills; use of appropriate social skills, including demonstration and respect for staff and patients; empathy toward patients; skills in teaching or assisting with activities of daily living helpful. 

It is required to possess a valid Georgia driver’s license with no suspensions or tickets for major traffic violations for at least three years.

Basic or general knowledge of human growth and development helpful; an understanding of behavior management modalities; ability to maintain professional boundaries and willingness to seek supervision in this regard.  Highly preferred qualifications include four (4) years’ experience working with children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbance and/or co-occurring substance abuse disorders in an acute setting or bachelors level education in a human service related field.

Para-Professional Component: Preferred qualifications include two (2) years of experience working with children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbance and/or co-occurring substance abuse disorders or two (2) years of post-secondary education in a human service related field and the study of child development.  Must obtain Para-professional certification per Richmond County school district requirements within identified time upon hire.

Bachelor's Degree in business administration or related field preferred or equivalent combination of experience

Experience: Minimum of two (2) years experience in a preferably in a behavioral health-care setting,

Additional Requirements:   Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and be able to perceive the attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, and/or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertips.  Ability to exercise control in volatile situations. Must be able to follow policies and procedure protocol at all times.

 All candidates must agree to our hold-over policy.

CPR/First Aid certification required or ability to obtain within first week of hire.  In addition, must be willing to become certified in therapeutic restraint technique program.

Additional pay for lifeguard certification.
