What You'll Do:

It used to be that high-speed packet forwarding was performed in dedicated ASIC designs. These days we are looking to make those ASICs more general and programmable. The Datacenter team is looking for an expert Senior Design Engineer to drive existing projects and engage in new development of our Nexus 9K family.

Cisco DataCenter develops high-performance switches for the data center and for the cloud. You will be working with the team that develops the ASICs at the heart of each of these switch products. There are only a very few teams worldwide that implement such devices. Every time you access the Internet, chances are, your data's been through one of our switches.

Who You'll Work With:

You will work with Cisco’s premier datacenter SDN solution team. Our team, within Cisco Datacenter, is responsible for driving integration of the Nexus 9000 and ACI with open source software, including OpenStack, Docker, and Open vSwitch, to help our customers build multitenant clouds.

Who You Are:

You are a talented, motivated platform software engineer eager to participate in the evolution, development, and support of our SDK. You will have a software design background with hands-on experience in SDK or embedded software development, in-depth knowledge of industry practices, and a proven track record of success in high-performance/high-volume semiconductor markets.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement SDK from scratch to program forwarding, datapath, and port state machines
  • Drive quality by writing high coverage, effective unit and functional tests for high availability systems
  • Optimize code for production deployment
  • Fix bugs and maintain existing infrastructure

You have:

  • Merchant silicon SDK experience
  • Familiarity with ASIC abstraction layers
  • A deep understanding of L2/L3, multicast and tunneling features
  • Solid experience with implementing/maintaining L2/L3 data path features in a NOS
  • Proven experience in traffic management features in ASICs, including queuing, shaping, policing, QOS
  • Familiarity with Ethernet MAC layer and auto-negotiation standards.
  • Deep understanding of chassis based designs.
  • Coding expertise in C and at least one object oriented language

Minimum requirements:

  • MSEE/MSCS with 10 years of related experience is required.
  • Solid Design and development experience with at least one programming language.
  • Proven experience with developing a protocol module from scratch.
  • Ability to debug an issue system wide (from applications to protocol modules to forwarding plane).
  • Ability to work independently
  • Collaborative and team-focused
