Job Description

::The Inpatient Therapist provides assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, delivery and documentation of individual, group and family psychotherapy, facilitation of behavioral changes, and discharge planning to meet the needs of assigned patients (ages 4-17).  Provides clinical guidance and education to direct care workers.  Provides patient specific treatment, adhere to patient safety standards, assures patient rights, prevents/identifies/reports abuse, and oversees quality of individualized therapeutic interventions.  Achieves positive, sustainable outcomes with youth presenting serious clinical problems.

Performs position specific job functions within professional nursing standards.  Completes position responsibilities by following established guidelines and protocols within appropriate time frames.  Conducts individual, family, and group counseling sessions according to individualized treatment plans and in accordance with professional standards, and appropriate to the specific treatment needs of the patient.  Interviews patients to assess and identify problems relating to mental health, family, school, employment, alcohol, drugs, and other sources using approved assessment instruments, social history, and consultation.  Provides timely, accurate, and thorough documentation of patient behavior, treatment planning, individualized interventions and patient progress. Coordinates admissions, transfers, and discharges and make appropriate recommendations relevant to transitions in treatment and discharge.

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities:

  • Therapeutic interviewing methods and techniques; principles and practices related to assessment instruments; the principles and practices of clinical diagnostic activities and various modalities of psychotherapy, counseling, and abnormal psychology; crisis intervention techniques; and federal, state and local ordinances and policies regarding therapeutic issues.
  • Word processing and basic programs; drafting individualized treatment plans. Accurately conveys patient behavior and status verbally and in writing. Effective professional verbal and written skills for communicating patient status, and treatment needs to clients, families, professionals, and employees of the facility. Able to verbally adapt spoken communication to meet needs of patient.   Maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, care providers or regulatory agencies. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work activities. Able to effectively present information to employees, management and public groups.  Maintains professional therapeutic relationships with staff, patients, families and visitors.
  • Proficiency in facilitating individual and group therapy sessions.  Able to safely de-escalate aggressive patients. Coordinates multiple tasks efficiently.

 

Education/Training:

Masters Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling.

 

Licensure/Certification:

  • Current Oklahoma licensure (LMSW, LCSW, LMFT, LBP, LPC), eligible for licensure (under supervision); or licensed psychologist.
  • Current Oklahoma Driver’s License (Required for staff on Driver’s List)

 

Experience:

Prefer two years work experience in a psychiatric treatment setting with children and/or adolescents.
