Job Description:

Oversees the training of dispatcher trainees in a lead capacity; monitors and documents progress of trainees.  Supervises shift and prices unit costs for transports; provides large volume or full load quoting for dealers and commercial accounts; assists dispatchers with difficult and complex calls and dispatches; and serves as the technical expert over complaint-taking and dispatching operations. The Dispatch Supervisor’s primary responsibility is to provide leadership and guidance to the dispatchers on their team while being able to provide reporting on days to dispatch and margins to their superiors on a regular basis.  In depth knowledge of their business including trends, issues and pricing is required.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Weekly reporting of margins and metrics to superiors.
  • Knowledge of current trends in region with ability to shift focus and efforts in advance where needed.
  • Strategize and collaborate with departments who support various aspects that will build our customer & carrier relationships
  • Continuously contact new carrier companies to educate them about Ready Logistics and onboard them to our program
  • Price unit cost to vehicles based on market conditions
  • Re-price units that are not moving on a regular basis when needed
  • Maintain relationships with carriers in our network and develop new relationships with potential
  • carrier partners
  • Resolve problems as they arise. Problems consist of missing vehicles, damaged vehicles, late vehicles, etc.
  • Coordinate the transportation of vehicles by contacting carriers in our established network or locating new carriers to work with us.
  • Provide support and training to our carriers on our processes and how to utilize our tools & expectations/guidelines w carriers on meeting SLA’s and communications
  • Provide excellent customer service to our customers and carriers
  • Provide guidance and assistance to their dispatch team to continuously improve days to deliver and margins
  • Train new dispatch employees
  • Ensure that our drivers are properly insured and licensed to do over the road transports
  • Dependability and punctuality are a must.
  • Schedule pick-ups and deliveries when required
  • Determine outstanding pick-ups, compile data and generate transporter and account aging reports for the Senior Manager.
  • Maintain up-to-date records on transport companies and verify that each company meets all established insurance, safety and quality standards.
  • Provide outstanding customer service and resolve problems.
  • Supervise and direct the work of transportation employees by determining work procedures, preparing work schedules, expediting the workflow, assigning duties and monitoring work for accuracy and conformance to policies and procedures.
  • Assist manager in counseling and disciplining employees as necessary. Under the direction of the manager, plan, monitor and evaluate employee job performance, and assist manager in conducting performance appraisals.
  • Work with manager to review work volumes, plan and continuously monitor staffing levels to ensure efficiency, quality work product, and effective customer service; review departmental performance against key performance indicators and metrics and develop and execute strategies for improvement. 
  • Effectively leads the team at the location by setting an example in behavior, championing Cox/Manheim values and ensuring that all employees are treated with respect.
  • Enforce all company policies and procedures related to employee and customer conduct.
  • Visibly demonstrate safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures and modeling the behaviors related to such. Work in cooperation with safety leadership in support of all safety activities aligned with Safety Excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.


Qualifications

Qualifications:
 
  • Strong sales management skills
  • Minimum 4 years of operations or customer success/relations experience
  • Minimum of 2 years managing employees
  • Minimum of 2 years of dispatch experience
  • Automotive transportation industry knowledge is preferred
  • Able to develop and maintain quality, long-term relationships
  • Skilled at managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Detail oriented with good judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work efficiently under pressure
  • Self-motivated, reliable and dependable
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics or a related field is preferred
  • Previous transportation or automotive experience a plus
  • Valid driver’s License and good driving record required.
  • Ability to drive vehicles with standard and automatic transmission. 
  • Flexible work hours, as position requires occasional evening and weekend hours.
  • Knowledge of transportation and MTO laws and regulations required.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat and climb.
  • Vision abilities required include close, distance and color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Conditions:

Moderate noise level.  Occasional exposure to outdoor weather.
