Job Description

The transportation / driver performs routine patient/resident transport duties when transportation is needed for off-campus trips, as well as, other nonprofessional services under the direct supervision of the Director of Nursing. The transportation/driver works varied hours during the day, evening or night shifts, 7 days a week as needed. Universal Health Services, Inc. Standard 1 – Job Tasks & Knowledge-Completes position responsibilities by following established guidelines & protocols within the appropriate timeframes. Performs job functions at an acceptable level. (40%) 1. Follow directions as given by supervisor and obeys policies as outlined in policy and procedure manual. 2. Provides transportation to patients/residents in a manner that considers safety, patient rights, comfort and the therapeutic environment. 3. Makes trips as time efficient as possible by utilizing shortest, safest route and immediate return to Heartland. 4. Utilizes time at Heartland efficiently by assisting on units as directed by Director of Nursing when waiting to leave on a transportation trip. 5. Will not perform any personal business while on a transportation trip unless approved by supervisor. 6. Assists with patient/resident trips outside the facility including out-of-town trips that may require being gone 12-15 hours. Standard 2 – Facility/Department Policies/Procedures-Adheres to established hospital and department guidelines and protocols. (10%) 1. Increase knowledge base via participation in in-service attendance, staff meeting and performance appraisal system. 2. Follows all other facility and departmental policies and procedures. 3. Channels concerns appropriately, deals with conflict appropriately and privately. 4. Maintains confidentiality of patient and employee information in verbal, written and electronic information. Standard 3 – Education/Development & Initiative-Maintains education and development appropriate for position. (10%) 1. Able to communicate with other staff, visitors, and patient/residents with compassion and courtesy. 2. Reports to work on time, follows procedures for reporting absences. No more than six absences per year. 3. Participates and maintains facility safety standards and culture. 4. Attends department meetings on a regular basis. 5. Attends department inservice programs and ongoing education to improve job performance. 6. Completes all orientation and annual requirements according to hospital policy. Standard 4 – Communication, Interpersonal Skills and Service Excellence-Demonstrates good skills in all forms of communication. Works well with others in a spirit of teamwork and cooperation. Shows awareness of differences. Supports hospital mission, vision and values. (40%) 1.
