Position Description:
POSITION PURPOSE
The Transportation Manager will be responsible for the movement of outbound fleet operations in the most efficient and cost effective manner in support of the Distribution Center. Duties will include but are not limited to private fleet operations and maintenance, driver supervision, route system management, all DOT and other applicable federal and state law compliance, measurement and reporting of key performance indicators for all logistical activity for the location.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
50%- Management of approximately 25 local delivery, OTR, and line haul drivers. This will include managing productivity and efficiency, employee relations and discipline, performance appraisals, and federal, state, and company required paperwork (DOT, Driver Qualification files, DVIR, vehicle maintenance and safety).
10%- Service levels to end user customers including maximization of next day service model, damages, claims and return goods authorization.
10%- Route maintenance to include software system planning and contingency planning. Working with shipping department on shipping characteristics and optimization of freight.
10%- Relationship management with all 3rd party service partners including TL, LTL, UPS, and Vehicle Maintenance Providers.
10%- Assist in the development of TQM and Lean Initiatives for our logistics operations including ongoing evaluation of quality issues in delivery of our product, integration of interdepartmental quality issues, and employee focus and training on improving delivery services to our customers.
10%- P & L responsibility for fleet and delivery items.

NATURE AND SCOPE
Reports to the Operations Manager. Has 20+ direct reports.

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Environment:
Typically in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noise, and fumes which cause noticeable discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness.

Travel:
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must pass the Drug Test.
  • Must pass Background Check.
  • Must pass pre-employment test if applicable.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required:
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 4 years
Physical Requirements:
Requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS/BA in Transportation, Logistics, or Business Management preferred
  • Experience in Transportation & Logistics Management
  • Experience managing drivers and commercial vehicles
  • Knowledge of routing systems, preferably RoadNet is required
  • Expertise in DOT regulations for commercial vehicles

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
  • Excellent computer skills, specifically in MS Excel and MS Access
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
