Position Description

The UHCGlobal Actuarial Consultant is the subject matter expert and trusted advisor for understanding and interpreting the key drivers and risk of  US and international accident/health/other risks as they emerge and impact UHCGlobal businesses. This individual will be involved in the development of pricing models, methodologies, and assumptions.

The UHCGlobal Actuarial Consultant will identify, measure and mitigate risks; develop rates, prepare cost estimates, and conduct research and evaluate studies on pricing, frequency and severity across the UHCG businesses, both on US and non-US insurance licenses.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare actuarial justification for regulatory approvals
  • Actuarial certifications and rate filings

  • Update/ reset starting claims costs for multiple rating models

  • Interact with Dental, Vision, Life and Disability actuarial teams to update current models

  • Develop trend analytics for both U.S. and International claims costs

  • Research multiple US statutes / regulations and recommend appropriate adjustments to comply with regulations as they impact UHCG

  • Develop/update/enhance pricing models for insurance product

  • Research, develop and maintain methodologies and models to identify bases costs for non-healthcare businesses

  • Competitive analysis  (US and non-US licenses)

  • Retention modeling and validation

  • Gather information and create database platforms to store and enable access to relevant data across for each UHCI business

  • Extract and aggregate applicable data for projects (pricing, reserving, rate setting, trend analysis, profitability)

  • Train local actuarial and UW teams



 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Finance, Actuarial Science or related field
  • Actuarial designation (ASA or FSA)

  • 5+ years of previous experience in actuarial and/or financial data analysis required

  • Excellent quantitative, problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written to a non-actuarial audience

  • Strong project management and organizational skills

  • At least an intermediate level of proficiency in Excel

  • Demonstrated ability in successfully building relationships across multiple business functions, within affiliated companies, within and outside the USA

  • Ability to work in various global time zones

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a “start-up” environment
  • Familiarity with pre - PPACA pricing, in multiple states

  • Experience with SAS and / or SQL

  • Professional experience with MS Access

  • Proficiency in a second language

  • Exposure to multiple facets of various insurance products (life, other A&H, P&C):  product design, pricing, risk management (UW and reinsurance)

  • Experience in translating business-driven data needs to technical data/programming and third party administrators

  • Currently reside in Minnesota or Connecticut
