The Unit Clerk is responsible for performing unit clerical duties and for supporting the staff in implementing effective paper flow and record keeping systems.Other duties include transcription of patient treatment orders, verification of all  transcribed orders, answering unit telephones, preparing messages, assuring that blank charts are always available for new admissions, ensuring that all necessary legal and clinical forms are present with blank charts, filing clinical reports in the medical record and maintaining a system for assuring that clinical reports are reviewed and initialed by the attending physician/licensed practitioner prior to filling the clinical record, transferring all discharge records to the Medical Records Department, ordering supplies, maintaining the established levels of inventory and supplies,. Photocopying documents, maintaining open charts, mailing patient correspondence, maintaining legal logs, completing lab request forms, . In addition, the Unit  Clerk may conduct patient observation rounds, as needed.

Job Requirements

Education:  High School diploma, or equivalent.

Experience:  Minimum of one (1) year prior experience as a Unit Clerk or related position..

Additional Requirements:  Must have knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy.  Knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred.
