::

1.  AGE SPECIFIC STANDARDS

2. ORDER TRANSCRIPTION: 

  1. Transcribes physician orders in a timely and accurate manner.
  2. Accurately inputs orders into the Cerner order entry system.
  3. Spells words correctly, writes legibly and demonstrates knowledge of medical terminology.

 

3. INTER AND INTRA DEPARTMENTAL COMMUNICATION:  

  1. Accurately records and distributes messages in a timely manner.
  2. Provides telephone services, including answering and directing calls, giving information, page placing and

returning calls.

  1. Notifies ancillary departments of need for patient services in a timely and appropriate manner.
  2. Answers the call light promptly and professionally.  Alerts nursing staff as needed.
  3. Demonstrates the AIDET during interactions with customers and co-workers.
  4. Supports hospital vision and behavioral standards to include compassion, courage, trust, and innovation.

 

4. DEPARTMENT ORGANIZATION: 

  1. Keeps work area/nursing station neat and organized.
  2. Responds to customer needs, i.e. obtaining charts, obtaining patient information, labs, copying, etc.
  3. Maintains patient census log and data in the emergency department in an accurate and timely manner with admissions, discharges and transfers.
  4. Accurately transfers and discharges patients in the computer in a timely manner.

 

5. SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT: 

  1. Orders supplies for the unit/department following the budget guidelines as set by the Department Manager.
  2. Maintains appropriate par levels of supplies (office supplies, kitchen floor sotck, forms, etc.).
  3. Identifies malfunctioning equipment in work area/nursing station and sends for repair in a timely manner.
  4. Completes work order and obtains appropriate signatures.

 

6. MEDICAL RECORD MAINTENANCE: 

  1. Ensures the medical record is neat and organized.
  2. Provides required forms for physician use in the medical record
  3. HIPAA-assures compliance with all mandated state and federal regulations.

 

7. CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS: 

  1. Communicates pertinent information to the RN, Clinical Supervisor, or Physician in a timely manner.
  2. Prioritizes multiple tasks in an appropriate manner.

 

8. CORE COMPETENCIES:

  1. Demonstrates the ability to accurately enter orders into the Cerner system in a timely manner.
  2. Demonstrates the ability to effectively utilize the nurse call system.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Job Requirements

1. ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS

 

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Basic knowledge of nursing care terminology and functions.
  • Telephone skills.
  • Typing and filing skills.
  • Knowledge of basic computer systems.

 

 

2. MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

 

  • Six (6) months experience in an acute care facility.

 

 

3. MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

 

  • ROP Unit Secretary Course preferred.

 

 

4. REQUIRED LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS

 

  • BLS preferred
  • CNA or EMT experience preferred

 

 

 

5. WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

  • Ability to work in a high volume fluctuating census environment.
  • Subject to many interruptions.
  • Subject to irregular hours.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment where noise levels fluctuate.
