Unit Description

Sodexo Government Services is seeking a Unit Controller 3 to join the Government Finance Team in Cheektowaga, NY. The Unit Controller 3 will oversee the prestigious USMC (United States Marine Corps) east contract which consists of Quantico, Camp Lejeune and Parris Island. 

 

The Unit Controller 3 will have responsibility in:

  • Reviews financial data for accuracy prior to week-end, period-end, and year-end financial close
  • Responsible for all transactions for weekly, monthly, and annual close ensuring contract compliance
  • Manages all accounting and financial matters for 33 cost centers
  • Account reconciliations, accounts payable, billing, budget, reporting, inventory, transfers, etc.
  • Performs trend analysis to assist decision making
  • Analyzes year over year spending variances to assist with the budgeting process
  • Builds strong relationships with all levels of the organization to ensure operational effectiveness
  • Gather supporting backup for monthly client billings, generate client billings based on contractual requirements, provides support in resolving client billing issues, and manages and collects receivables
  • Maintain records and reports necessary to comply with Company, government, and accrediting agency standards, regulations, and codes
  • Ensure the contract-required financial audits of messhalls are performed twice-yearly, assist in identifying and resolving audit-related issues
  • Manages one direct report

The ideal Unit Controller 3 candidate will have a preferred BA in Accounting or finance and at least 3 years accounting experience in a lead role, strong knowledge of GAAP policies and procedures and proficiency in finance related computer applications. The Unit Controller 3 will have the ability to work in a high pressure environment, ability to interpret and analyze financial information, attention to detail, as well as excellent organizational skills.  The candidate will also have excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills with ability to communicate throughout the finance organization.

 

Preferred experience:

  • Strong technical, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experience reconciling accounting and financial statements
  • Excellent computer skills with ability to prepare, analyze, and interpret accounting data and provide concise executive summaries using excel that translates technical financial information for non-technical audiences

Must have the ability to obtain a government security clearance

Minimal travel required

Position Summary

Manages all accounting and financial matters for large multi-size national account or a large complex single location account
Key Duties
- Examine Unit financial records to verify details of recorded transactions. Examine financial records to verify details of recorded transactions. Analyze and interpret budgeting trends.
- Assist in the implementation of corrective action plans developed during an audit. Assist in the monthly/quarterly/year-end close process to ensure accuracy and integrity of results at the unit/district/region/division level. Plan or assist in planning annual or project-specific budgets
- Generate special reports and respond to data requests from management. Prepare and review reports and other written documentation. Actively listen to concerns and requests of customers and strategic partners, which helps to identify their needs and requirements and to resolve their problems.
- Perform unit audits. Perform ad hoc financial analysis for Unit/District management. Participate in the audit process, including assisting in identifying and resolving audit-related issues.
- Conduct training on internal controls. Train accountants and field in contract interpretation, accounting procedures, system applications, and other areas
- Provide Unit management with recommendations for action and/or modifications to financial procedures, plans, and controls. Provide support to GM's/DM's/RVP's/DVP's in order to ensure accurate results and help improve profitability. Provide support in resolving client billing issues, and managing and collecting receivables.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial data and statistics, including operating and administrative budgets. Ensure that assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenses for responsibility area are accurately reported and accounted. Ensure audits address areas of concern relative to the goals, performance objectives, and impact of economic, financial, and managerial programs in conformance with Company policies and procedures.
- Interact with Buffalo FSC and clients to resolve invoicing and payment/remittance issues.
- Maintain records and reports necessary to comply with Company, government, and accrediting agency standards, regulations, and codes.

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement – Associate's Degree

Basic Functional Experience – 2 years in accounting, finance or a related field
