**ROLE SUMMARY**



The Vaccines Clinical Epidemiology Centers of Excellence epidemiologist is responsible for establishing and guiding a worldwide network of epidemiologic disease surveillance centers or "Centers of Excellence. (COE)" The COE will help define the burden of disease, vaccine effectiveness, and impact of vaccines of current and future Pfizer vaccine assets. The incumbent may also take primary responsibility for epidemiologic issues concerning one Pfizer Vaccine candidate including determining the burden of disease, risk factors for illness, and vaccine target populations as well as defining the research priorities to assist clinical development of the vaccine candidate.



The epidemiologist will also provide input on the clinical program needed to obtain recommendations/reimbursement from Vaccine technical committees and Governments.



This is a dynamic role that requires a firm understanding of epidemiology of infectious diseases as well as bringing preclinical and clinical science together and the ability to objectively interpret technical and commercial information to deliver value added input to inform research alliances, product concepts, and to create optimized clinical development and lifecycle strategies.



The incumbent is also responsible for providing the vaccines medical perspective to business development opportunities and external partnerships and will work closely with the commercial head for selected business opportunities in the Vaccines BU







**ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**







+ Develop a multisite COE platform worldwide



+ Provide scientific guidance and oversight to COE



+ Will develop and distribute the initial request for proposal (RFP) for the COE



+ Will create selection criteria for sites



+ Will conduct site assessments to determine site capabilities and epidemiologic and laboratory capacity



+ Will develop protocols, case report forms, databases



+ Will establish contracts, onboard the sites, monitor surveillance, conduct audits



+ Will develop publications guidelines, governance plan, monthly conference calls, yearly site visits, periodic collaborator meetings



+ Must be a high level respected leader so can be the face of Pfizer



+ Will present results at scientific meetings, to VTCs, to national and international organizations such as CDC and WHO and through scientific publications



+ Success of the COE project will be dependent on having a "can do" well respected coordinator







**QUALIFICATIONS**







+ PhD in life sciences with appropriate infectious disease epidemiology and clinical epidemiology expertise.



+ A minimum of 10-15 years experience in epidemiology and infectious diseases preferred; 5 years of solid medical and scientific knowledge as well as experience in infectious diseases is required.



+ Should have experience conducting population-based active surveillance projects



+ Solid track record of publications in epidemiological related studies in peer-reviewed journals essential.



+ Experience in designing and implementing clinical and/or epidemiologic studies of infectious diseases are essential.



+ Able to influence and succeed through others. Able to form excellent relationships with key stakeholders in BUs and WRD.



+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills including scientific writing skills and strong interpersonal skills.



+ Strong work ethic and proven track record of delivering high quality within timelines.



+ Innovative in identifying new opportunities and finding new ways to create value.



+ Networking - Credibility and approachability to establish and maintain important partnerships across RUs, BUs, and partner lines.

**NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS**



Travel may be required to approximately 3-10 international conferences, meetings, and site visits per year.
