The Prudential Retirement Human Resources department in total supports an employee population of approximately 2400 associates across four major locations and a few field sites. 
This role, Senior HR Business Partner, directs and manages the human resources activities for a client group(s) in support of the group’s strategic business plan and objectives.  The client groups for this role contain about 500 of the organization’s associates.  This individual directs an assigned staff of HR business partners in maintaining and improving existing programs and in analyzing, developing and implementing new policies and programs where appropriate.  Maintains a strategic partnership with senior leaders and management staff to ensure that human resources programs fully support the business goals and objectives. The person in this role has a high degree of decision-making authority for their client group(s).  Contributes to the development of and the accomplishment of the organization-wide business plan and objectives.
The person in this role is deeply knowledgeable about the design of work systems in which people succeed and contribute. This strategic partnership impacts HR services such as the design of work positions; hiring; reward, recognition and strategic pay; performance development and appraisal systems; career and succession planning; employee development; and employee relations.
Organization Effectiveness (OE) Focus
The Senior HR Business Partner provides expertise in how to create a positive work environment in which people will choose to be motivated and contribute to the goals of the organization.
This person helps leaders establish the organizational culture and climate in which people have the competency, concern and commitment to serve customers well.   In this role, the HR professional provides ideas regarding employee development opportunities, and with the support of the OE Center of Expertise team, provides organization development solutions and approaches to problem solving.
Working with the Talent Center of Expertise team, focuses on helping leaders build talent within the business unit and helps to drive a climate of inclusion.  Identifies talent and continues to follow up on their development plans and needs through their managers.  Understands the connection to achieving business results by participating in a strategic workforce analysis process for the departments they support.  This person is knowledgeable in supporting the Talent and Diversity Strategy and the programs available to ensure readiness of leaders and overall development of key talent. This person participates actively in diversity initiatives.
Change Focus
The constant evaluation of the effectiveness of the organization results in the need for the incumbent to frequently champion change. Both knowledge about and the ability to execute successful change strategies are valuable in this role.
The Senior HR Business Partner contributes to the organization by constantly assessing the effectiveness of the HR function. This role also sponsors change in other departments and in work practices. To promote the overall success of the organization, this person supports the organizational mission, vision, values, goals and action plans.
This role often leads HR projects in Retirement or participates in Prudential-wide HR projects, as well as manages the HR work stream of business projects in client areas.
This role includes people leadership responsibilities.
Employee Relations
This role will manage preventative employee relations by helping create a positive environment through which leaders can lead and associates can thrive.  At times, this role will also need to provide leadership in investigating and finding solutions for employee relations issues; or in structuring reorganizations. This requires knowledge of the regulatory environment and the company’s policies.

  • A solid track record of achievement as a strategic HR business partner and advisor to senior executives.
  • Ability to analyze workforce trends and identify initiatives to drive organizational performance.
  • Ability to translate business needs into human resources priorities and ensure alignment.
  • Experience handling complex employee relations and legal matters.
  • Management experience required; preferably managing a geographically dispersed HR team.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills.  Ability to think strategically and act tactically. 
  • Proven success operating in a dynamic and fast-paced, complex, high profile environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Embraces opportunities to streamline processes to drive efficiencies and improvements. 
  • Bachelor's degree required in business, HR or related fields.  Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of leadership experience in human resources.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%.
