The health care markets are evolving in many different ways and the role and impact of  consumers is becoming increasingly important providers look for new ways to grow and manage risk. In particular, the ability to from new partnerships in the market is critical to the success of these organizations. Optum is seeking a senior consulting leader to grow its consulting business around Network Management & Payment Innovation for all healthcare markets including payers, providers and employers.

 

Focus areas include Network Management, Network Contracting, Provider Data Management, Narrow Networks, Clinically Integrated Networks, Payment Evolution models with value based care, Payer Provider Network Collaboration, and Provider Engagement. This position requires deep knowledge and expertise in the following areas:

  • Network Contracting - Health plan and provider aspects: Contracting knowledge for all lines of payer business (Commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid); all types of contracted providers (health systems, hospitals, post-acute care, etc.)
  • Network Operations and Data Management
  • Payer provider collaboration
  • Payment innovation models (including shared savings, capitation, bundled payments, etc.)
  • High performance networks/narrow networks
  • Network Intelligence strategies and tactics
  • Value based care strategies - Health plan and provider models

Primary Responsibilities:

  • As a Consulting Network Management & Payment Innovation Practice Lead within our organization you will have the opportunity to perform the following types of activities:
  • Consulting Practice Growth Leadership (40% Time Allocation):
    • Leverage your personal network to identify new client opportunities in the healthcare market
    • Achieve practice level sales consistent with organization targets
    • Develop proposals and statements of work for client specific engagements
    • Lead the development and closure of big and major client engagements involving cross Optum solutions
    • Lead the RFI, RFP and sales process
    • Complete financial analysis for proposed solutions
    • Build provider solutions Marketing and Sales Collateral
    • Direct responsibility for the oversight, hands on participation and delivery of large scale projects/programs - Large scale programs are defined as high cost, high complexity and/or high risk
    • Establish trusted partner relationships to expand the Optum Consulting footprint at designated clients
    • Facilitate development of business segment and enterprise level planning and program objective setting
    • Obtains high client satisfaction scores (>90%):
    • Develop and maintain clients references
  • Consulting Practice Development, Market Planning and Thought Leadership (20% Time Allocation):
    • Industry thought leader around clinical, quality, and network management strategy and analytics
    • Define market needs and gaps to current capabilities (matrix with Marketing and Sales teams)
    • Define Points of View for best practices and develop key performance indicators to show value
    • Work with Business Units (Optum One, Optum 360, etc.) to understand product integration opportunities/risks and align long-term marketing and delivery plan
    • Identify and develop consulting offerings, products, services solutions that align with key market needs and or client initiatives
    • Determine pricing models and options for new solutions
  • Consulting Practice Oversight & Service Delivery (40% Time Allocation):
    • Ensure utilization rate and billable revenues are attained annually
    • Participate in senior level program funding and prioritization decision processes
    • Provide strategic input to the development of program roadmap and timelines
    • Create a team oriented work climate that enables professional development and encourages creative solutions and strategies
    • Support the management of resources within programs
    • Support program communication plan and execution
    • Require that quality assurance methods are implemented within the program
    • Provide status updates and review of programs to senior leadership
    • Provide coaching and mentoring of project team with the goal of developing and retaining talent within the organization
    • Work with client to lay out strategic roadmap for consulting solutions
    • Provide financial and data analysis to support ROI for project funding

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years working in a Professional Consulting/Managed Consulting Organization, performing large deal sales and consulting services to large key external clients (individual deal size minimum $M+ with total sales of minimum $5M+ annual)
  • 15+ years of experience of within Network Management & Operations within preferably a Payer organization or consulting group, with provider experience as well
  • Prior experience leading teams
  • Existing network of C-level relationship with Provider market clients
  • 3+ years of experience in with large scale consulting opportunities and development of payer- focused consulting solutions in the multiple areas including: network, analytics, population health management and quality.
  • 3+ years of sales and delivery of Consulting Services to healthcare clients in the payer market with the ability to lead the RFI, RFP and sales process
  • 3+ year of experiencing for client solutioning for Network capabilities
  • Ability to think strategically, proven experience laying out strategy, developing products and/or services from ground up that would be sold in the commercial market
  • Proven problem solving skills (identification of issue, causes, solution, implementation plan)
  • Project management - strong project tracking, presentation and reporting skills
  • Strong ability to influence and motivate
  • Experience writing and executing business plans for new consulting solutions
  • Ability to travel up to 70-80%
