As the Vice President of Pharmacy Clinical Operations you will be the major clinical support for the Life Science team.. In this role you will also provide leadership in the development and management of clinical products including working on Value Based Contracting (VBC)agreements, Pharmacy and Therapeutic simulations, and general clinical expertise support to our many clinical offerings. You will be empowered to do your best to develop the strategy and vision for product roadmaps, establish collaborative relationships with external and internal stakeholders, gather accurate requirements and evaluate product performance to enhance our mission of helping people live healthier lives.

As a part of the Clinical Life Science team, the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist is responsible for input into the strategy, business case presentation, design, development, and launch of new products, product enhancements, and / or market opportunities that cut across all channels that Optum Life Science serves. This role will also be responsible for presenting to our multiple clients including pharma and device manufacturers and our multiple health plan clients. This senior position will support all business development activities from developing materials to presenting concepts to clients and to making sales.

In regards to the support for our VBC team this position will help determine the clinical value of a product which will directly affect how a VBC will be designed and furthermore will dictate which products are viable for VBC. In order for VBC to work and be meaningful we need a very specific type of clinical support. VBC will need the support of an experienced managed care clinician that can interpret clinical data from a P&T perspective but also operationally understand how a P&T works

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee projects from inception to completion
  • Provide responses to drug information requests to support our Life Science team member
  • Assess and interpret customer needs and requirements
  • Identify solutions to non - standard requests and problems
  • Coach, provide feedback and guide others; acts as a resource for others with less experience
  • Work with other pharmacists and clinicians across the enterprise
  • Clinically research information, and provide timely feedback to requests for drug information
  • Ability to interpret competitive intelligence, industry and market trends, and customer feedback and devise strategies and plans for product development opportunities
  • Adapt at developing sound development business cases and cost / benefit analyses to support product development efforts
  • Ability to translate ideas into strategies, define plan for those strategies, and work cross-functionally to launch and execute on product development plans
  • Work directly across many departments and cross functional teams to design, develop and drive successful deployment of new and enhanced programs and services
  • Support the development of market and sales strategies and value proposition
  • Navigate and influence multiple cross - functional teams in a complex, matrix work environment, which may require working across Optum and UHG business units
  • Manage cross - segment projects and initiatives that require problem solving, relationship building, influencing and analyzing
  • Works with leadership to determine appropriate success metrics with which pilots and / or general available products will be evaluated

Required Qualifications:

  • Current and unrestricted pharmacist licensure (any state) 
  • PharmD or Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy
  • 5+ years of experience working as a clinical pharmacist
  • 5+ years of PBM experience including extensive knowledge of P&T strategies and Prior Authorization guidelines and operational issues
  • Ability to navigate MS Office and a Windows based environment and the ability to create, edit, save, and send documents utilizing Microsoft Word
  • Ability to navigate Outlook and conduct Internet searches
  • Experience conducting clinical research and market competitive intelligence analysis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pharmacy residency experience
  • Managed Care experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or related field or MBA
  • Ability to showcase UHG’s culture and values

  • Naturally curious with the ability to navigate ambiguity and adjust strategies and plans accordingly
  • Strong interpersonal skills that enable relationship building
