The Vice President, Risk Management is responsible for risk governance especially through the committee structures, including the Risk Oversight Committees and Enterprise Risk Committee. He or she will also be responsible for supporting the CRO’s risk reporting to the Risk and Audit Committees of the Board and the Full Board, and coordinating the other Board reporting by the risk heads. Reporting to the Head of Risk Governance, this role will have high visibility with the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) and several members of senior management as well as a close working relationship with the heads of each risk type within Enterprise Risk Management (ERM). The successful candidate will support the Head of Risk Governance in administrative duties associated with the Risk Committee of the Board and will coordinate the CRO’s risk reporting to other board committees.
The incumbent is accountable for drafting Board reports, reviewing standard quarterly reports and writing key messages, overseeing the semiannual risk survey report, setting standards for governance, overseeing the processes and ensuring appropriate decision making and documentation. He/she may serve as secretary to some committees and will work closely with the secretaries of other committees. Finally, the position will serve as back up to the Head of Risk Governance and is responsible for working with all areas of risk to identify and work toward best practices in governance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drafting CRO Reports to the Board and key messages on standard reports to the Enterprise Risk Committee (ERC) and the Risk Committee of the Board.
  • Managing the Board reporting process from ERM, including the standard quarterly report across risk types.
  • Drafting the messages from the CRO to the Board, including the annual Audit Committee report, report to the Full Board and annual Board dinner.
  • Completing the annual Risk Survey Report and mid year updates.
  • Coordinating the weekly Competitive and Market Information (CMI) meetings, with staff support.
  • Provide secretariat support to joint meetings of the Risk Oversight Committees, with staff support
  • Implementing necessary changes to comply with new regulatory developments affecting risk governance
  • Acting as a resource to support the businesses in bringing risk-related issues to conclusion within the governance structure
  • Serve as a member of the team and may be engaged in other activities, or special projects, as priorities and resources dictate.
  • The incumbent will enjoy the support and partnership of the entire RGA team, and more broadly, the ERM team, on risk governance activities.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following key qualifications:

-Broad knowledge of most,  if not all, risk types  (market, investment, insurance, operational)

- Prior background in governance
-  Excellent and proven writing skills.
- Executive presence and comfort with all levels of management
- Strategic thinker, able to pull together disparate facts, to see trends and impacts
- A high degree of initiative, curiosity, with an eagerness to learn.
- Strong team player; ability to partner across the organization and achieve results working through  others.
- Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills.
- Ten or more years of risk management or related experience in a large financial institution is required.
-A Bachelors degree is required. An advanced degree or CFA is preferred.
