Reporting to the UnitedHealthcare Networks Regional Vice President – Provider Relations & Service,  the VP Strategic Provider Relationships will be responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing the strategic relationships with UHN’s largest and most influential provider and hospital relationships on a national level. The primary responsibility of the role will be to develop strategic relationships with assigned clients and identify and execute on client’s needs and expectations which will drive partnership opportunities for the purpose of deepening relationships, reputation and overall growth. The position will require collaborative work across all of UHG enterprise, UnitedHealthcare Networks and its key business partners (Clinical, Product, Communications, Compliance, Finance, Benefit Operations, LOB) and Optum.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop and manage the UHN key relationships with UHN's largest and most influential strategic provider and hospital relationships
  • Create and develop enterprise wide strategies and collaboration focused on strategic relationship management 
  • Measure business performance; identify / quantify drivers, risks and opportunities for business performance and define solutions to mitigate risks and leverage opportunities
  • Manage a team focused on new and ongoing relationships and service delivery to clients
  • Consult on and prepare executive level presentations (both internal and external)
  • Consult with internal partners to design and implement programs to build and nurture positive relationships between the health plan, providers (physician, hospital, ancillary, etc.), and practice managers
  • Establish, cultivate & maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with key internal & external constituencies; including UnitedHealth Networks leaders, Finance, Communications, Clinical, intersegment partners, key vendors, and senior leadership across the enterprise to advance the UHC/Optum business agenda
  • Actively seek and engage in community activities, looking for those that align with the client’s interests
  • Provide feedback to management on market trends as represented by our clients
  • Effectively manage escalated issues; helps remove internal / external obstacles to meet client expectations
Required Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years experience working with a managed care organization, health insurer, or consultant in a network management / contract management role
  • 8+ years experience in data analysis
  • 3+ years project management or project lead experience
  • Expert level of proficiency with all facility / ancillary contract reimbursement methodologies
  • 5+ years experience with claims systems
  • Strong knowledge of business processes that impact facility/ancillary contracts
  • 3+ years experience with contract submission, validation and maintenance
  • Ability to convey complex or technical information in a manner that others can understand
  • Excellent communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with various levels of leadership
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Access and PowerPoint)
