This individual sets and leads the strategy responsible for enabling top-line profitable growth, driving expense management, and margin expansion for the Wellbeing, EAP & WorkLife Services product portfolio globally. Through leadership of international and domestic teams this role will be heavily engaged in increasing operational excellence including oversight of all end-to-end performance metrics, including NPS, quality, service, and performance guarantees. Partners as a Senior Leader to drive innovation in the product portfolio which is aligned and relevant to current and future demands within the industry. Indirect responsibility for operational / call center services and the member experience; network performance; quality assurance; reporting and analytics; and performance management practices. Partners with adjacent Optum product areas such as Prevention services; Behavioral Health; Advisor services; Optum International; Optum Bank; United Healthcare; and vendor / academic and professional organizations. Oversees the integration of people, process and technology disciplines to ensure the delivery of a best in class consumer experience. Plays a critical role supporting the Growth Office across sales activities including customer presentations; pricing and performance guarantees; marketing; proposal development; and operational customization to meet customer needs. Hires and develops a high-performing workforce, and creates a winning culture that inspires individuals to achieve their full potential. Represent Optum in public forums, professional organizations and publications; and other market-facing activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develops the overall operational strategy for the enterprise Wellbeing, EAP and Worklife services business globally, and aligns resources to achieve/exceed financial targets. Heavy emphasis on driving bottom-line IOI growth and margin expansion which yields improvements in year-over-year profitability
  • Serves as a key voice and influencer, internally and externally, representing EAP strategy for our global business as an enabler to Optum’s Prevention business long term Wellbeing strategic roadmap
  • Leads operational excellence focusing on leveraging business partners to identify opportunities to improve business processes and internal efficiencies, reduce cost and create product / service synergies, improve access and the member experience
  • Lead an organization of approximately 175 employees (direct and indirect), effectively delivering team performance leadership, talent development and workforce management and employee engagement
  • Fosters strategic and collaborative relationships with key business partners including Consumer Solutions Group Senior Leadership, the Growth Office, IT, account management, finance, quality, claims and human capital
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of industry market and internal operating business risks / opportunities and executes strategies to mitigate / capitalize as appropriate
  • Leads systemic process improvement initiatives in collaboration with other Optum divisions, such as shared services, marketing, network management, reporting and analytics, quality, IT / PMO, and finance
  • Partners with Optum International and internal EAP Leadership to support consistent service delivery to multi-national customers across the globe. Ultimate accountability for international EAP market and financial strategy
  • Ensures the gathering of business requirements for technology and other key organizational projects, and oversees a capital budget
  • Leads the development of respective annual business plan and oversees the execution of key initiatives
  • Ensure management of BenEx, OpEx, and indirect expenses which reduces service delivery costs on a membership-adjusted pepm basis
  • Acts in partnership with UHG Business Resiliency and Disaster Recovery activities to respond to critical incidents impacting the enterprise, our customers, and the general public
