Position Description

As the VP of Healthcare Analytics, you will strategically manage teams that are committed to evaluating the health outcome and economic impact of health care interventions, policy changes and population health dynamics. By leading a large team of analytic talent, you will drive high performance, efficiency and growth through application of advanced analytics across Optum.  You will set the tone for business engagement to enable analytics teams to bring strategic approaches to advance Optum’s impact in the healthcare industry through the application of advanced analytics. This is a critical Leadership position. This individual will be a Subject Matter Expert, Thought Leader, Business Development Leader, and the General Manager of this business. You will lead a team of 80+ scientists, researchers, analysts and support staff to a target Revenue of $25M in 2018. This individual will lead UHG/Optum initiatives such as Value-based Formulary (ORx), UHC's Chemotherapy Transparency Tool, Cross-Optum projects and Value-Based Contracting Management.  

 
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic leadership to a number of teams, comprising analytic talent from many parts of Optum
  • Build strong relationships with Optum businesses area supports by the analytics that your team creates
  • Support the development of a “community of analytics” - creating a culture that makes Optum THE place to be for advanced analytics in healthcare
  • Serve as a key member on the OEA analytic steering team
  • Support the implementation of Optum-wide analytics initiatives such as OptumIQ
  • Support the prioritization and delivery of impactful analytic projects
  • Lead projects from conceptualization to completion
  • Build strong relationships within the organization including finance, marketing, communications and human capital
  • Build a global team of analytics talent through thoughtful and consistent engagement of global delivery leadership
  • Mentor and develop your elite team

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • PhD in Health Services Research, Biostatistics, Health Economics  
  • 15 or more years of experience in health care analysis
  • 10 or more years of experience managing a team
  • Prior experience managing a P&L or budget 
  • Experience performing large deal sales to large key external clients
  • Experience directing cross-functional teams
  • Experience working in a complex, matrixed organization
  • Knowledge of analytic capability foundations

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Management consulting experience
