Overview:
Prudential’s Individual Solutions Group is on a journey to transform its technology landscape from older, custom-built applications to newer, packaged, cutting edge software.  The Vice President, Technology Practices, reporting to the Chief Information Officer, will be accountable for building and leading the Technology Practices for two large-scale businesses (Life Insurance and Annuities Technology), including Quality Assurance (QA), QA Engineering, User Acceptance (UA), Business/Systems Analysis, Release and Problem Management as well as the Agile center of excellence. This leader will develop Best in Class IT practices to ensure alignment with corporate strategy and goals. Partners with multi-departmental leadership and other stakeholders to locate opportunities and develop and prioritize programs/projects according to relevant measurement criteria.
 
Responsible for providing quality throughput of business and systems requirements, testing and release and problem management across multiple platforms; supports corporate and business area systems, distributed processing, client server, internet intranet, and Web site applications. Responsibilities include planning to meet the business needs of the corporation/business areas implementing those business needs with timely and cost justified products. Makes recommendations to higher level corporate and/or business area management concerning long-range policies for information technology systems, including overall strategy, implementation and development. Responsible for the leadership oversight of the Technology Practices to ensure that all projects within IT programs are delivered within the defined scope, quality, time and cost requirements.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Lead all aspects of QA and UA testing functions including establishing standards, guidelines and tools, as well as reviewing procedures that will insure the quality of all systems development projects initiated or maintained by technology practices.
  • Transform the traditional QA function into progressive test automation environment
  • Lead the analysis, design and development of technology requirements to achieve the desired business outcome, building Best-In-Class Business/Systems Analysis practice
  • Build an Agile Center of Excellence and Agile coaching practice as well as governance of processes, people and methodologies related to the Agile framework across the organization to ensure all groups are using the Agile methodology to advance products, capabilities, profitability and results
  • Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the Technology Practices to measure business outcome success
  • Accountable for 200 employees and 300 consultants
  • Collaborate and develop relationships with other technologists by partnering, pairing and sharing
  • Work with a general direction and exercise independent thinking
  • Lead with critical thinking to optimize current processes and practices, assess evolving talent needs and reimagine the future environment
  • Define multiyear strategy for Software Quality Assurance, User Acceptance, Business analysis and agile
  • Foster an “outcome-based” mindset where outcomes are well-defined, understood, actionable, and measurable
  • Lead the business function with a “risk-aware” mindset ensuring to anticipate unintended consequences of recommendations and decision making
  • Creates & implements a talent sourcing strategy that improves diversity and enables variability through balancing the blend of in-house and external staff
  • Engage across the technology organization and build relationship models that foster the proper inclusion of quality practices across the company

Qualification:
  • Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, MIS, or related (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Ten (10) plus years of experience in the position offered, as Software Engineer, Systems Engineer, or related
  • Ten (10) plus years of experience using Java & some of the related development tools details in the "Job Responsibilities" detailed above
  • Test Driven Development (TDD) mindset & experience is a plus
  • Experience in the software development lifecycle, especially Agile methodologies, is a plus
  • Business and technical background in the Annuities, Insurance or Financial Service industry is a plus
