Position Summary:
Assess and counsel clients regarding psychological or emotional problems and develops and implements therapeutic treatment plans and discharge safety plans. Educate families and clients regarding diagnoses and safety planning. 
  1. Develop, implement, and administer therapeutic treatment plan by performing psychosocial assessments and compile all pertinent documents to facilitate treatment plan. 
  2. Participate in treatment team sessions with completion of all monthly treatment plan reviews. 
  3. Observe patients for abnormal physical or mental behavior and monitor progress with components of treatment plan. 
  4. Conduct and document individual and group therapy sessions according to treatment plans.
  5. Contact and schedule counseling sessions with family, significant others, and involved agencies. Arrange for family visits off and on facility sites.
  6.  Act as liaison with family and other agencies to reunify patient with family and reintegrate back into community. 
  7. Perform daily tasks of counseling by instructing patients in progress charting.
  8. Respond to any emergency situation involving patients in treatment. 
  9. Participate as a team member by cooperating with staff and demonstrate compromise and expression of opinions as appropriate.
  10. Attend staff meetings as required and perform duties as a positive role model for patients and colleagues. 
  11. Utilize chain of command in all aspects of program and follow organizations policies and procedures. 
  12. Perform community relations by ensuring all written and verbal information is clear, concise, legible, and accurate. 
  13. Communicate and cooperate with families, relevant external personnel, and staff members. 
  14. Document all external and internal contacts and relay patient information according to company and governmental guidelines maintaining appropriate confidentiality.

Master’s degree required; Licensed or Licensed eligible; one to two years related experience and/or training preferred.


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals, and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, patients, customers, and the general public. Regular use of terminologies and preparing drafts of proposals.


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute ratio, rate, and percentage, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency situation, and make independent decisions.


Valid State Drivers’ License with appropriate Endorsement.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move a minimum of 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distant, and peripheral vision, color and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee may occasionally be required to physically restrain patients, using authorized restraint procedures as a last resort for protection of patient and staff.


The work environment for this position is a residential facility or day treatment school setting, or the patient’s family home. While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee will be exposed to patients who may ask inappropriate personal questions, display socially unacceptable personal behaviors, use profanity and sexually explicit phrases, make insulting remarks or threats regarding appearance, age, sex, or race, and exhibit defiance, dishonesty, and assaultive or self destructive behaviors, The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, and the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Regular local travel is required as deemed by supervisor.
