Description

Cox Communications is searching for a WiFi Engineering, Wireless Engineer IV who  will be primarily responsible for drafting requirements, defining conceptual architectures, performing solution analysis and high-level designs for new Wi-Fi platform components, offerings and features for Wi-Fi and wireless projects based on the technical and business objectives at Cox.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert and lead the concept definition, analysis and design efforts for delivery of new Wi-Fi platform components, offerings and features
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Development, Application Development, Engineering and Operations organizations to build alignment and specify the objectives to meet the business goals and strategies for Cox Wi-Fi initiatives and networks.
• Take field experience and build into a cohesive, consistent, standardized WiFi architecture solution.
• Define service provider wireless network requirements engineered for service provider scale, redundancy and reliability including access points, wireless LAN controllers, RRM, RADIUS AAA (Authentication, Authorization, Accounting), access control, policy and charging rule function (PCRF), policy creation, policy enforcement, EMS/NMS, captive portal, configuration portals, layer 2 and layer 3 networks and roaming.
• Lead design discussions and drive decision-making with cross-functional senior engineers in formal and informal environments
• Partner with business and technology stakeholders, vendors and industry leaders to influence objectives and define requirements for wireless solutions and new product or platforms at Cox
• Translate business, technical and operational requirements into high level design documents, technical whitepapers and RFPs
• Evaluate new vendors, solutions, hardware, software and feature/functionality and produce preliminary assessments on benefits and issues
• Partner with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain the 10 Year wireless network architecture plan.
• Work closely with peers in the wireless engineering team to develop initial documentation for build and run documentation for support of new product, service and platform rollouts.
• Collaborate with the team and stakeholders to develop and maintain a detailed project plan that ties major milestones to milestones in program’s project charter.
• Provide technical input to and direction for CableLabs wireless committees and projects
• Develop and apply risk and issue management processes to identify, track, and resolve project obstacles (Risk and Issue Management Plan)
• Work closely with Business Process Manager, Program Manager, all Team Leads, QA team, 3PL and Technical Leads to create an overall project testing and/or trial strategy and manage implementation of plan


Qualifications

Minimum:

 

  • 8+ years of experience required in related field (i.e. Engineering.).  5+ years of experience required if candidate possesses a related advanced degree (MS/MBA or above)
  • Specific experience in both the design and deployment of large scale wireless networks. Broad experience should include: Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11 standards), components, services and product offerings
  • Advanced knowledge in Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi related IEEE standards, protocol and service provider architectures
  • Advanced knowledge in packet based protocols such as TCP/IP (TCP, UDP, ICMP, etc.) routing protocols such as BGP, ISIS, and OSPF, tunneling (GRE, L2oGRE/EoGRE, L2TP) and layer 2 (VLAN, 802.1q) networking principles
  • Advanced knowledge in Service Provider environments and services including Access, DHCP, DNS, Firewalls, Load Balancers, SNMP, network management and common application frameworks
  • Advanced knowledge of Wi-Fi security protocols and authentication (WPA2, WISPr, EAPS-TTLS, 802.1x, AAA, RADIUS)
  • Intermediate knowledge in DOCSIS access and provisioning technologies.
  • Experienced in SDLC, Waterfall and Agile processes as well as testing strategies for both function and scale
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science and 10 years of experience in the Wireless Communications Industry.
  • Significant experience in both the design and deployment of large scale service provider wireless networks including both Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11 standards) and wireless mobility technologies (LTE, UMTS, TDMA, OFDM)
  • Significant experience in management of complex technical projects, inclusive of resource planning, project schedule and budget responsibility.
  • Significant experience in direct management of vendors, RFP development and process management and vendor lifecycle management.
  • Experienced in traffic engineering and bandwidth capacity management. .
  • Experience in design and deployment of large scale Small Cell Networks or DAS (Distributed Antenna Systems) for both indoor and outdoor deployments.
