Description:
Prudential Retirement is seeking a dedicated, energetic, highly conceptual Writing Manager who believes the written word is a powerful business tool. Who is a master of storytelling. And who has a drive to work across the organization to deliver for our clients. The Writing Manager will be responsible for leading a team of writers to create innovative solutions for B2B and B2C markets.
The Writing Manager has the acumen to understand how business and communication objectives translate to their work to help drive business results. An in-depth knowledge of industry best practices helps guide creation of all deliverables without undermining their creativity. This candidate must possess the ability to simplify complex ideas to jargon-free, impactful communications. Additionally, Writing Manager will demonstrate an award-winning ability to marry visuals and words creating communications that could not be achieved by one discipline alone. This conceptual strength will be evident across mediums from email to web to print and data visualizations. Reporting to the Director, Creative Services, this candidate will design a wide variety of challenging projects.
Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with Business Partners, Research, Strategy, Project Managers, Production, UX and Development to conceptualize, create and refine Marketing assets including digital, email, print, data visualization, executive speeches, social media and video/animation.
  • Manage the daily work flow of writing projects, assigning work to team and freelance resources, making sure projects are on time, flawless and fit the overall Prudential Retirement Brand vision and image.
  • Lead the Writing Team’s performance, including conducting individual performance reviews, coaching and providing appropriate professional development opportunities. Must demonstrate team building competencies within work team and across business groups.
  • Demonstrate and encourage intellectual curiosity in the team, researching project topics and bringing new approaches to the table.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and new technologies.
  • Embrace a continuous improvement mindset, applying learnings from past programs to ongoing work.
  • Leverage industry best practices for creation of materials.
  • Work closely with the Asset Librarian to catalogue and reuse our content to help drive efficiency across Marketing.
  • Be a Prudential Brand Ambassador
  • Holds him/herself accountable to the Prudential Leadership Framework.
  • Foster a positive, can-do attitude across the team.
  • Share accountability for the success of the work product as measured by program KPIs.

  • A portfolio or link must be submitted with resume for consideration
  • Bachelor’s degree in Writing, Journalism, Communications or related discipline from an accredited college or university required.
  • A minimum of 10-15 years of Writing experience in digital and print, preferably within an agency environment. Financial Services experience highly preferred. 
  • 5 years experience leading a creative team.
  • A proven ability to provide Writing counsel to business partners through the context of industry best practices and program data.
  •  Demonstrated ability to develop strategically-based, innovative concepts that drive business results. 
  • Thorough understanding of best practices in writing for the web, email, information design, direct mail and print. 
  • Superb conceptual and writing skills as evidenced by an impressive portfolio demonstrating concept work across a range of platforms.  
  • Understanding of the latest communications trends and an interest in exploring and pushing creative boundaries including the ability to think about communications beyond the screen and print. 
  • Ability to thrive in multidisciplinary teams and the skills to balance great writing with short deadlines. 
  • Must be able to work both independently and collaboratively with designers, developers, planners, strategists, other team members and business partners. A positive approach is essential. 
  • Strong presentation and communication skills. 
  • Attention to detail that shows in error-free copy, proofing and edits. 
  • Software expertise including: Microsoft Office. Understanding of SEO.
